Well, Mario is always Mario I guess. Even if the formula is the same from 20 years (with some news) it is always fun to play! This is one of the WiiU games that intrigue me more! The fact that it is in HD is a great addiction!

LX-General-Kaos4230d ago (Edited 4230d ago )

It is nice to see that the light of positive speak has shined upon you. The Super Mario franchise has always been known for simply having a good time. Nothing too complicated or confusing. I hope that you enjoy your copy of New Super Mario Bros. U when available wherever videogames are sold.

Rated E For Everyone

He's just an imposter(that miku). However,I do find what he's doing to be very amusing.

hatsume-miku4230d ago

@Nintendojunkie28

What? Imposter? I don't know what you are talking about!

from the beach4230d ago

Well the formula is '2D platform game', unless you want to change genres there's not a whole lot else you can do, other than what they have done.

That said if they swapped in a different character sprite and painted the backdrops a different colour all the jaded fans would suddenly be clapping their hands and squealing "Yay, new IP, so innovative!"

hatsume-miku4230d ago (Edited 4230d ago )

I don't agree (but, ehy, this is my opinion). There are so many different types of 2D platform games, Castlevania is an example. Even if the basis are run and jump you can add so many variables to the gameplay that you can obtain tons of games very different one from the other. Mario is Mario, 2D Metroid for example are totally different, and so Contra, Sonic, Ninja Gaiden... In the era of NES and SNES a lot of games were 2D platforming, but no one ever think they are just "clones" of Super Mario...
I think the concept you want to explain is more suitable to modern FPS.

from the beach4230d ago (Edited 4230d ago )

I don't think it's fair to say they haven't varied the game - Super Mario Bros. is drastically different to Mario 3, to Mario World, to Yoshi's Island in its looks and its mechanics.

The NSMB games added in all the moves from 3D Mario, touch screen controls, four player ... the new boost mode looks intriguing.

I'm not saying all 2D platform games are the same, by any means! But it troubles me when something like LBP - one of blandest, most boring and unoriginal games the genre has ever seen - is celebrated just because it's a new IP with a cutesy, 'we love everything' aesthetic.

Darukain4230d ago

That seemed pretty awesome. Now I only wished that they would include a level editor.

Knight_Crawler4230d ago

Not gonna happen.

The reason for this is because Mario's main selling point is the platform levels and if they give people the tools to make there own then why bother buying Mario U 2

Darukain4230d ago

By your logic: Why would there be a LBP 2?

MasterCornholio4230d ago (Edited 4230d ago )

If you really want a side scrolling platformer with a level editor just buy Little Big Planet Vita.

No offense.

@Knight_Crawler
"Mario's main selling point is the platform levels"

Just like Little Big Planet but it has a level editor as well. Just read the reviews of Little Big Planet Vita and almost all of them praise the main campaign and the level editor.

If Mario doesn't have a level editor its because Nintendo doesn't want people to fabricate them.

Gr814230d ago

I hate to say it quite like this, but LBP isn't in the same league as Super Mario Bros.

from the beach4230d ago

It's for the best really, people think they can make a cool level but in reality they can't. See any number of godawful Mario hacks out there.

And that's using Mario's engine as the template, I can only imagine how bad fan made LBP stages are.

live2play4230d ago

agree with arius dion

im not saying LBP isnt quality becasue IT IS

but ...c'mon cornhole, really?

dcortz20274230d ago

@Arius Dion

Well, LBP is a new series, not an old, milked cow that refuses to die out! Sure LBP may not have Mario's numbers, but the quality is there so stop kidding yourself.

I didn't really see much of a "Boost rush" in there... seemed more like a "minor speed increase" to me. Oh, and some wind graphics going by on screen lmao.

No but really. New Super Mario Bro's is always awesome, and I have no doubt I will love this one too. Cant wait to get my Wii U :D

Knight_Crawler4230d ago (Edited 4230d ago )

Nice stealth edit -_-

His original comment was Xbox 360 rules...rape his bubble.

nintendojunkie284230d ago

Bubble has been raped!...I hope it was as good for him as it was for me ;)

Spenok4229d ago

Its too bad you cant permanently take away ALL of someone's bubbles.

TongkatAli4230d ago

I don't even know what Mario looks like, all I see is a jumping Benjamin.

wanieldiik4230d ago

will this game have a reggie-cam that narrates your gameplay experience?

Goodbye New Mario, I Won't Miss You

Am I missing something? It looks exactly the same, just higher resolution… Is this sarcasm?

specialguest302d ago

Yes, you're not observant if you think it looks exactly the same. It immediately appeared different to me from the start. Mario's 3D model will always be the same, so not much difference there. However, the animation they've given the Super Mario Wonder makes it look more like a CGI Mario animation where as the New Mario Bros game looks more like typical video game animation movements

__SteakDeck__301d ago

@specialguest Yeah those animations are insane.

FinalFantasyFanatic302d ago

You really didn't notice the difference? It's really obvious, I was surprised when I first saw the trailer.

Asplundh301d ago

"Am I missing something?"

Your glasses maybe?

Juancho51302d ago

This Mario game looks great, getting a switch for this and Mario RPG. CANT WAIT, TITS JACKED.

Profchaos301d ago

Yeah I liked how much more emotion could be conveyed through the new style at first glance I didn't see much difference but then rewatching the trailer I'm seeing more and more animations that remind me of the Mario artwork from the manual of smb3

Outlawzz301d ago

I hated the new super Mario bros Style. This new one seems a lot more expressive and less generic. I hope it's a good game

shinoff2183301d ago

I prefer the 2d Mario's. Me and my girl have played them all together and mario galaxy , Mario odyssey. The 2nd player option is extremely eh

Nintendo Needs a 'New' New Super Mario Bros. Series

Nintendo hasn't given attention to the New Super Mario Bros. series in years, and it may be time to give the 2D platformer something 'new' to do.

Mario as a 2D platformer has been around for nearly 40 years. What else is there that a 2D Mario platformer can do besides throw in a random gimmick like Cat-suit Mario (yes I know that was a 3D Mario, but I'm just making a point - gimmicks are not innovations)? The entire premise is go from point A to point B, collect a couple things on the way, jump over obstacles, and reach and exit. I hoped at one point that Mario Maker would be the next big 2D Mario thing, but that just quickly became a series of stupid-complicated autorun levels. I say just build off of Odyssey for a few games and innovate in that direction.

And for the record I love 2D Mario games, and if anyone can find a way to innovate something it's Nintendo - BUT the New SMB series of games wasn't all that great and to me it's just the limitations of the genre at this point.

CrimsonWing69403d ago

It’s crazy to me that nothing has come close to Mario 3 and Mario World. Those are the apex of Mario games for me. Yea 64 was revolutionary and I even like Odyssey, but I would choose 3 over any Mario game.
