What We Want in a PlayStation Store Redesign

IGN- It's been a whirlwind week of PlayStation news. As if a new model of the PS3 wasn't exciting enough, PlayStation Australia followed it up by teasing that a new look was coming to the PlayStation Store. Then, PlayStation promoted its new web portal and got everyone talking about what the humble store might become.

We don't have any definitive answers as to what's happening or when it's happening, but we do have lots of PlayStation Store ideas Sony should listen to. Below are five seemingly simple things the PlayStation Store should be doing.

The story is too old to be commented.

a redesign and better navigation. is all it needs imo.

Blastoise2129d ago

Nah, the Europe store seems pretty half arsed. Video's don't load, broken images, voice over errors (See Ape escape and Sly HD collection video's).

HarryMasonHerpderp2129d ago

Well said Blastoise.
It's about time the EU store had a complete overhaul.

Emilio_Estevez2129d ago (Edited 2129d ago )

Better navigation is certainly needed. I know where to find everything, but people who aren't familiar are lost. I've seen my friends try, have to snatch the controller or tell them where to go every time.

I would like to add the possibility of user written reviews, it would be nice to see exactly what people say about the game before buying.

Ben_Grimm2129d ago

Gawd no, could you imagine the nonsense people would write about games?

It would be nice if we lived in a world where people were honest and not internet/forum warriors but i can only imagine the hateful, spiteful reviews games would get. And they would probably outweigh the truthful honest ones.

MobyRoyale2129d ago

The difference is that people have to actually purchase a game to review it. Somebody would have to be very dedicated to trolling to actually purchase a game simply to trash it.

I just don't see it.

DoomeDx2129d ago

@MobyRoyale

How about free PSN+ stuff and demo's then?

MetalProxy2129d ago

@MobyRoyale I have noticed people buying a game for $60 and then rate it a one star. Not sure why but it does happen. There are some hardcore trolls Iam sure of it.

moparful992129d ago

@doomedx Do you honestly believe that people are going to buy a PS+ subscription just to troll ratings?

@metalproxy but thats the point, why are those people paying all of that money only to rate it low? It would be beneficial to allow them to voice that opinion instead of just seeing a 1-5 star ranking.

@MobyRoyale Great idea man I think that is a needed and to answer the concerns about trolled ratings I would think a moderator could pre-read and approve comments before they are allowed to be posted.

It needs two things.

1) the ability to search-by-category. I hate searching for a game and having to wade through page after page of DLC, avatars, videos, etc.

2) More of a PSN Account History issue, but "owned" content should be categorized, at least by price. When I go to my download list, I hate having to scroll past every single item I've ever downloaded (demos, videos, etc.) to find the stuff I actually bought.

Other than that, I just want more games.

moparful992129d ago

You do know you can look it up by date right? I know that it doesnt help if you dont remember the exact date but you can get close and weed out alot of the chaff...

Oschino19072129d ago

Never noticed anything like that myself but I don't see why you wouldn't just use search or go through menus to the exact thing you want to redownload. No need to go to "View Downloads" when you can just go to the "PS3/PS Vita/PSP Games" page or "Add Ons" if its strictly DLC you want to redownload.

Either way I do agree the "View Downloads" menu could be better sorted but its very easy to work around and no need to trudge through it if its something you downloaded a long time ago.

"1) the ability to search-by-category. I hate searching for a game and having to wade through page after page of DLC, avatars, videos, etc."

You sure you own a PS3 or ever use the store because that's exactly the way it is.

Go to "PS3 Games" on front page and it goes to a menu to choose the catagory you want to search.

Catagories are - New releases, Top downloads, By genre, PSN games, PS3 full games, cross play games (ps3/vita), PSN exclusives, PS1, PS2, minis and finally PS3 Bundles.

Now it could be a bit more streamlined and have less sub catagories as you search but they give you all the options and possibilities. I could only see a first time user maybe having trouble for a few min before they figure it all out. Either way if the menus are too "difficult" for you, you can always just use the "Search" feature and find exactly what you are looking for and anything else related to it.

Perhaps having a check-list of some sort to select what to download and an option to move downloads directly to background downloading instead of having to do it manually all the time?

It's a bit irksome to download multiple items (such as the character skins for uncharted 2&3) one by one.
... and even if you do use the 'add to cart' trick, you can't make the downloads happen in background.

Also, I'd prefer if digital downloads were actually updated. It's just goofy how you buy a digital game, install it, launch it, and then have to sit through the game downloading patches. =/
Oh well, maybe that's something they'll improve next gen.

God, I hate that.....

SolidDuck2129d ago

Demos for every psn game, should be mandatory. I really don't care what reviews say, I need to feel them before I buy them.

Summons752129d ago

Thank you!!!

There have been so many Psn games I had to pass on because there was no demo. The games looked interesting but to take a risk on something I may not like is not how I like to spend my money. Plus XBL has a demo for all there new games so why can't PSN?
