Dark Souls was a cult hit for Japanese developer From Software. VG247′s Dave Cook speaks with the studio to reflect on the game’s development, success and future.
Great article for a truly amazing game this gen along with it's predecessor demons souls
People say that the Japanese games industry is in trouble, but when you see them releasing stuff like Demons/Dark Souls which are considered two of the best games of this console generation, nevermind all the brilliance from Platinum Games and Hideo Kojima etc well, you have to wonder how people can have that opinion? It's as if somebody said the western games industry sucks just because of Activision and EA, it doesn't make sense.
Capcom and SE are the biggest reasons that people say the Japanese industry is in trouble. The fact that many smaller studios don't release their games outside of Japan is another reason. When you look at the bulk of global Japanese offerings, you see that there are few games of the calibre of Demon's/Dark Souls releasing outside of Japan. And then you have SE and Capcom acting like Activision and EA and it just adds up to a problem.
Nice.. Thanks for making Dark Souls easier too! (or at least less frustrating) xD Farming for mats in Demon's Souls was much harder.. and so are being able to get a check point. I feel much more at ease with controlling the game too due not having to worry about World Tendencies.
I hope they make another souls game. Plox
