While it's not the original type of survival horror exactly, it does a good job in adding a new aspect to the series.
If, by adding "new aspects to the series" you mean awful controls, a broken cover system and capcom trying and failing to emulate Call of Duty and Gears of War lite, then you are right sir. Resident Evil 6 will sell bucketloads to kids who like shooting enemies in the head, but most real survival horror fans are set to mourn the death of a once great franchise.
Couldn't agree more. Though it's Examiner so I think it comes as no surprise when one of their writers (who's most likely high on bath salts) praise crap like this.
Well that's the gaming industry for you, and it's troll fans. m Make your game exactly the same like people on this forum are saying to do - people whine and cry that it doesn't innovate enough. Change your franchise and do mix things up - people complain that it wasn't like it was before. Mark the game down because it wasn't enough like RE 2, 3 and 4? This is why you're not a game designer.
I liked it/ Better than RE5 at least. Took me a while to get used to the new mechanics though
I don't understand people that are praising this game. If you are a gamer or a professional gaming journalist playing this game you should know that even the basic gameplay mechanics don't work properly. Like RAFFwaff said the controls are awful and the cover system is broken. Then there's the awful camera and crap QTEs thrown in. The gameplay is so dated and trying to be a Gears of war clone but failing in every way. Whether you like the action direction the game has taken or not you cannot deny that the basic action elements don't even work. It's just a frustrating mess and it will be the first main RE that I will be passing on. I can't wait for all of the BS reviews of 9/10 and 10/10 that's when we will see which sites actually get paid off or just have bad gaming journalists. Anyone that games knows that this game is looking very dire indeed no matter how many pretty trailers they show us with big enemy's and big explosions.
"If you are a gamer or a professional gaming journalist playing this game you should know that even the basic gameplay mechanics don't work properly. " True...they should also review the game as it is in this case it's a sequel to RE, a horror franchise, since the game obviously dosen't have anything which makes the game like the old ones or even RE4 then it should be marked down. if it fails to be a sequel to a franchise by changing into something which could be passed off as a new IP then why should we praise it. I mean you get the arguments "Well if the game is good then it should be praised" but why do that...if a game fails to live up to the franchises name then it's not good. Yeah it could be a good game in general but you should of give the game the benefit of the doubt if it was a new IP. Look at FF13 it was a terrible FF game and yet it was praised and got high scores....we obviously know now the brand name and the fact it was a FF game is what gave it a high score. If it fails to live up as a RE game then it should get marks taken from it when reviewing it, the same if it has broken controls and a bad camera....the franchises name shouldn't give it a good score. Have we not learnt our lesson from hyped games like GTA4, FF13, RE5 for example
I didn't have a problem with the controls at all. I also didn't use the 'snap too' cover system and played it more like Transformers FoC.
Wtf the controls always sucked in resident evil
What an amazing argument. I don't get what your point is? If it's a "fact" Resident Evil has always had bad controls then it's okay that this game has bad controls too? nice logic.
It wasnt an argument. It was a fact.
Not really. Give me Resident Evil 3 and 10 minutes to get used to it again and I'll play it without getting frustrated while executing every move perfectly when I need it. If you're talking about aiming mechanics and such then it's just your own taste. I've never even seen one person that claimed that the every RE game had bad controls... On a side note; very well said HarryMasonHerpderp.
You guys make it seem like the gameplay to resident evil one is like the holy grail of survival horror. My point was that people like to get all nostalgic about the past. Those games were great but played like shit.
The game still plays great tho. Yea I know it's nothing like the original Resident Evil games, but c'mon, accusing it of being like Gears because it's an over the shoulder camera is just immature. Lemme guess, every game that has a gun now will be accused of being like CoD? The controls don't "suck" as everyone claims. It feels perfectly set-up. I know all the controls and can use them fluidly at any time so IDK what everyone is complaining about. Just enjoy the game for what it's worth. If you don't want to, then just move on. Simple as that. Have a good day everyone.
i got motion sick playing this. probably becouse of the camera, was a bit strange.
Demo was OK. May watch my son play it but he will probably pick it up second hand.
Played it yesterday. It was ok but nothing special. Gonna try the two other campaigns as well (Chris and Jake).
Played it, dissapointed. The camera movement and control gave me a nightmare.
I guess you could say.. the camera is horrorble
As a huge huge fan of the RE series, I say I am really disappointed at this one, the whole aspect of it :( To be honest, ZombiU is looking better and scarier than this
Because of Resident Evil 6 I will get a Wii U now to play ZombiU with REAL ZOMBIES and not Resident Evil Shit
I've already given up on what I think the game should be, so here's my problem with what it is today.. The controls, while modern, are still a bit off. Why am I dragging along some s***ty A.i partner in EVERY campaign??? It's like Capcom knows co-op is the only reason people will buy this game..Or it could be that over in Japan, it's only possible to open doors if you have a partner??? Speaking of A.I...it's awful. Dark does not equal horror. Painfully linear. Even Conan O'brian complained about chairs that form barriers and invisible walls...It's stupid in most cases because it's there to add a few extra minutes of play time while you weave your way through a bunch of corridors. No puzzles...yeah...it's only a demo, but it's obvious there will be no puzzles with the big ass waypoint guiding you from one point to another. So all there is to gameplay is shooting zombies in the face, lifting partners over walls, opening doors with partners, cutscenes, and qte's...that's it. Speaking of bulls***, the Waypoint is a slap in the face to any RE fan and is the worst part of Deadspace, but at least it's optional in that game. And that's just the Leon Mission. Don't get me started on Chris's section and I didn't bother with whoever Jake is...
Day one.........in the bargain bin
Totally agree, I just cancelled my preorder of RE6 as I am not into Call of Duty games ...
Before the demos, I really wanted this one but I find it ridiculous that while playing as Leon you can just kick your way out of every encounter, not to mention pulling wresting moves on zombies, I was like wtf!! I just pulled a DDT on a zombie.
