Matchbox 20 Guitarist Can't Handle Guitar Hero

Kotaku reports, that once again proving that playing the actual guitar and playing Guitar Hero are two entirely different skill sets, Matchbox 20 guitarist Kyle Cook reveals the shame of being a professional musician beaten by his little brother in a video game about being a professional musician.

"My little brother, who doesn't play a lick of guitar, will just smoke me on that game. And I don't get it. A lot of the songs I know, because some of them are from my era, like "Sweet Child o' Mine" by Guns N' Roses. I'm like, "Dude, I know how to play that song (on a real guitar). How are you smokin' me on this game?" It's just tough for me. I think it's 'cause I'm a player; I can't get used to this little color-coded thing and looking at light beams coming at my head." (Guitar Hero II, Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock, PS2, PS3, Wii, Xbox 360)

i dont think its a matter of them being opposite (good on one, must suck on other). they're kind of unrelated skills to be honest. I know some really good guitar players that pwn on guitar hero, but i also know really bad guitar players that pwn on guitar hero. to be good at guitar hero, u just have to be good at video games.

no to be good @ guitar hero you need to have good reflections.

not all video games require speed and a brain that can react fast.

ugh, REFLEXES >_>

Guitar Hero = button mashing reflexes, which can be developed in a short period of time.

Playing Guitar = A skill that takes years to develop, especially playing lead.

Mashing buttons on a plastic guitar does not vaguely resemble the skill set & timing required to even play a 3 chord song. We wont even talk about bending notes, slide, dropped tunings, scales, harmonics, pinches, hammer-ons, ect. ect. ect.

Sorry bro, but if you "button-mashed" in guitar hero your game would be over in a quickness. And enough of the guitar hero vs real guitar. We already know they are different.

"enough of the guitar hero vs real guitar. We already know they are different."

Totally. Playing a real guitar requires skill.

I agree that the two require completely separate skills. However, the first thing I thought of when I read this was... "Hmm. M20's guitarist can't play Guitar Hero OR the guitar worth a damn now... interesting."

Definitely agree, playing a guitar is 100x harder...
