Borderlands 2 Golden Key exploit patched, no one is being punished
Gearbox have been pretty quick to patch an exploit on the games Golden Key, and anyone who got tempted by it is getting off scott-free.
(Borderlands 2, PC, PS3, Xbox 360)
but the shouldn't punished who got them. that's ur fault not the one who got it. BTW i am outside US."EU" and my brother played the game with US release. through steam.
The weapons in the chest are purple not orange or pearlescent (if that is even in B2). They aren't the best weapons and can't spoil the game since they are scaled to your level. Plus it's a co-op game, so does it really matter if another player has an extra purple item? At higher levels you will be hunting for orange rarity loot, so the purple won't' matter all that much.
@GameOn, they are scaled to your level when you find them, they don't level up with you. If you unlock a weapon at level 10, it will be a good, viable weapon at that level and maybe useful up to level 12 or so. After that it will be useless since you will find better guns, though maybe not as "rare".
The weapons are basically created on the spot when you find them with randomly generated stats, but the stats are scaled to your level at that moment. They will sometimes be a level or two above your current level or can be a few levels below. Most seem to be on par with your level or a few levels lower. Since the weapons are created as you find them, when opening the gold box the weapons inside will be created for your current level of experience. They are scaled to your current level at that moment, not being constantly scaled to you level and any levels attained int he future. It's exactly the same as it was in the first Borderlands.
I'm not sure what you mean, I did this exploit and ended up with 2 Golden keys, I used the first one and simply got grenades that weren't anything amazing... but now i'm saving the second key to use until i'm a higher level, hopefully i'll get something better :/
Yeah but the guns are leveled to your level so its not too much of a problem, you'd need to keep playing to get the best guns, you can just have more of them.
"Gearbox have not wasted any time patching it, in fact so fast that barely anyone outside the US will have gotten a chance to take advantage of the exploit (including me because my copy didn’t turn up in today’s post)."
What's stopping people not updating then editing the files? Gearbox can't do much with those who refuse to update at the minute to abuse it. As soon as they're done, they can update the game :)
They probably took the setting out of the ini file that people could easily modify as a text file. It was silly of them to put it there in the first place.
Most likely, however I'm sure people will monitor what files are modified in the update and just search for it again. Then again I'm pretty sure something like cheatengine would be far easier to use.
I came across it couldn't help but do it a few times, to get punished for doing so would be a little extreme. Glad it's patched cause it can ruin the experience.
I almost did the same at one point because the original had boxes placed in the towns and everything (without keys! :P)
I ran up to it was about to open it and I saw either the look of the box or the keys pop up, but I'm glad I didn't...Too bad there isn't a confirmation about opening it at least for the first time :) (ADD IT GEARBOX! :D)
The funny thing is...I wrote them about it and told them that exact same thing because by day 2 there were numerous threads about players (like me) that did the same.
All this talk of a "Golden Box" in Sanctuary and it looks like a standard random weapons chest...And the odd thing is, there is a small notification showing you it costs 1 key, but no confirmation like you said. Meaning if you see that it will cost you 1 key and you are used to hitting X and opening another box (like me again), it's too late! >_<
I had 3 keys too...not sure why, but I have 2 and didnt even get to keep the weapons because I thought by shutting my 360 down, it wouldn't save and I would have all my keys...Wrong again!
Oh well...I'm sure there will be more keys down the line hopefully. Thats what the guy at Gearbox told me at least...

Time to throw out more Shift Codes Gearbox!
