Point of Contention: The Wii was Good

Moar Powah: "I really enjoy writing posts like this. Too often we get consumed with our desire for the next big thing that we forget how lucky we are for what we already have. Thus, let’s take a look back at Nintendo’s little endeavor from 2006 that exploded into the most commercially successful console this generation. My own experience with the white box was inconsistent at times but I can safely look back and say that the time I did spend with it was warm and friendly. Nintendo may not have captured every game enthusiast’s heart this generation, but here’s a few reasons why perhaps overlooking the console entirely was a gross error." (Wii)

Overall the Wii was okay but after awhile we realized the motion controls wasn't that great.

Just different, I think. It certainly didn't revolutionize the industry, and though it's definitely better for a few things, overall I think analog control is still the most intuitive form of control for most 3D games.

I agree, it brought gaming into the living room and opened up what was once a fairly insular hobby to absolutely everyone. The Wii was incredibly important.

BUT... Nintendo stopped supporting it for the longest time, and failed to listen to the fanbase (to the extent where Operation Rainfall had to exist).

The Wii has amazing games with great stellar gameplay.

Only real issues are low powered system
Early stage of Nintendo Net wasn't great (Friend Codes are garbage)
And the original motion controller wasn't up to par with motionplus

But I think the Wii U will be great advancement over the Wii.

The Wii was fun to play with, but it just didn't have enough "hardcore" games. The games that it did have were fun. I enjoyed Skyward Sword a lot on the Wii. It was a great game that I can't wait to play again.

The system was underpowered and thus didn't get any "big" titles and overall 3rd party support was weak. Lots of shovelware.

Motion controls were interesting and so, but the technology behind the Wii Mote wasn't that good and I hated its imprecision.

No proper online service, complicated friend-codes thing are not a good bonus either.

I ended up selling my Wii after few months. It has some awesome first-party titles, but that's it. I also loved its design, I give my respect to Nintendo's designers.

Wii was a huge success for Nintendo, but for me... It was just "meh".

Just my honest opinion

VC on the Wii helped make it a good console.

If it didn't have motion controls for a lot of games it would be even better.

Imagine Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2, on the Wii U Pro controller.

The Wii ended up becoming a glorified emulation machine for me, through the virtual console. I hated the motion controls, so once I got a classic pro controller, I never looked back. Some people absolutely loved the Wii, though, and I won't fault them for that. To each their own.
