8 Essentials:
1. God of War 3
2. Metal Gear Solid 4
3. Folklore
4. Motorstorm Pacific Rift
5. Little Big Planet
6. Starhawk
7. Resistance 3
8. Ratchet and Clank A Crack in Time

damn no inFAMOUS, Uncharted, Killzone 2, Heavy Rain or Gran Turismo 5? bah my list sucks lol

Xof4234d ago

There are just so many PS3 games, it's hard to come up with any list with just 8. I'd probably break a list apart by genre. So, for example:

Action:
God of War Compilation (the one with the -whole- series)
Yakuza (series)
Uncharted (series)
Gundam Senki

Platformer:
Ratchet & Clank Future (series)

PS2 HD Ports:
Jak & Daxter Collection
Sly Cooper Collection
Metal Gear Collection
ICO and Shadow of the Colossus

Roleplaying:
Dark Souls
Demons Souls
Dragon's Dogma
Tales of Graces f
Mass Effect 2

Strategy:
Disgaea 4
Valkyria Chronicles

Fighting:
Persona 4 Arena
Blazblue (series)

Other:
Flower
Journey
Catherine

And that's just me, with my limited tastes. Those games you listed, remanutd55? I don't really like (at all) half of 'em... but I'd still agree with you that they'd all belong on a list of PS3 essentials.

Remember the old days of NO GAMES?

No, the problem with the PS3 is that it has too many.

And it doesn't look like they're going to let up any time soon.

Demon's Souls is the most essential to me.

Call Of Duty is all you need

ZoyosJD4234d ago

That's like buying a sports car and never going over 75.

Don't get me wrong I don't mind cruising the streets trying to look cool, but sometimes I want to feel the beast roar.

Hicken4234d ago

Or not.

Call of Duty is the last thing you need. With a PS3, there are so many games better than it. Even if we're talkin just FPS, both Killzone and Resistance are better franchises(though I'll admit I still love W@W).

And it doesn't come close to Uncharted, inFamous, God of War, and other such franchises.

People who are going to buy a PS3 for the first time.... i gotta say Heavenly Sword would be a good addition to that list if they want some really great eye candy.

I never got around to mass effect - I’m skeptical that it would hold up if I were to try it now

Furesis3h ago

I would say it does. The combat is a bit shit for todays standards but everything else is great.

anast2h ago

It's worth a play through today.

Still have my ps3 copies. Bought it at launch and another one when I found it cheap and in perfect condition about 10 years ago. I wouldn’t buy it on Switch but if they made a PS5 version I would. I still have one of my PS3 Fats hooked up so good to go either way.

darthv7222h ago

Id play it again on the switch. I wished my 360 version was bc but this is still a good way to play.

People are stupid I get it. No one should feel unsafe,

But I think they need to talk about why they cut so many corners during the development process and why none of their games ever look current. And why they think all of this is okay while they charge full price.

LucasRuinedChildhood23h ago

As much as Bethesda deserve criticism, that's not really relevant to the reveal of Fallout 3 in 2007.

VenomUK20h ago

The default angle Kotaku always go for is to highlight the worst in gaming.

I would’ve focused on the creative.

anast2h ago

The game went downhill at Fallout 3's release. This is when they started to cut corners.

gold_drake19h ago

there is no "but". the hell lol
you dont send death threats, period.

anast2h ago

Usually, you have good comments but this isn't one of them. It just rides the mob. We can do both condemn the actions and not let them use it for other things.

I can say I received a death threat and everyone needs to shut up. People are not honest and will use horrible things to their advantage.

Armaggedon14h ago

Not all games “look” current.

anast2h ago

Their games always look like the gen before it.
