GamesRadar - Just in time for Tokyo Game Show, we take a close look at the current state of Japanese development and see what can be done to "fix" it.
They aren't broken. They're just trying to be western right now, which they shouldn't. Devil May Cry wasn't broken. Bayonetta wasn't broken. FFVII-X weren't broken.
Really the biggest problem with Japanese games are some developers trying to westernize There franchises. Games like Pretty much any NISA game and Tales series are strong cause they never tried to appeal to western gamers. The Yakuza series is also at it's strongest when it's not trying to appeal to western gamers. If these developers want to try to make western games, they should use there established franchises instead start from scratch, look a Binary Domain, a game from a Japanese developer that's quality is on par with titles like Gears of War.
