Are PC’s the Next-Gen Console?

MasonicGamer.com: It’s becoming painfully apparent that the majority of my opinion articles are shifting towards to aggravating PC gamers. I feel compelled to inform you that it’s never really my intention and I apologize if it comes across that way. Without further ado, I present the console of 2013 the personal computer.

Throughout 2012 we’ve seen countless rumours of Valve making the jump into the hardware market in one form or another. A significant amount of that speculation was focused on the console market and was quickly dismissed as the wet dreams of PC fanboys everywhere. The other end of the spectrum landed somewhere between game pads and keyboards. Although we’ve yet to see exactly what Valve has planned for their newly hired Industrial Designer one things for certain, Steamers are salivating.

love pc gaming and keyboard and mouse! if there was only 1 choice 1 way to play games i will always choose pc.

Keyboard and mouse is best suited for FPS, MMOs and RTSs.

But I personally cannot stand keyboard and mouse for third-person view games. It was ok for the first Tomb Raider games, but WASD for movement is so clunky and outdated.

You can use a joystick/controller as well lol

FYI we PC gamers are not limited like console players,

WE CAN USE GAMEPADS!!!

WE CAN ALSO CONNECT OUR PC'S TO A TV!!!!

we also got more exclusives than the PS3 and X360 combined.

there even is a need for speed title exclusively for PC!!

MaxXAttaxX1831d ago (Edited 1831d ago )

I know. I use a DS3 as my preferred controller and am able to plug my PC on to my TV just like everyone else with a computer. Big whoop.

Geez talk about being overly sensitive. I was only talking about keyboard and mouse and people CAPS RAGE assuming that I'm hating on PCs or something, which I'm not lol.

Are you feeling alright? All of that was totally unnecessary and I don't remember anyone doubting PC exclusives. But let me tell you something. Numbers aren't everything and you'll still be missing out on games if that's all you play.

If you want to avoid the insecure PC fanboy label, I suggest you don't go on the attack for no reason.

Happy gaming :)

I wonder what consoles would get on 3DMark benchmarks....

Keyboard and mouse can work for any gametype if a developer tries to build for it.

Gamepad on the other hand never works better than keyboard/mouse with RTS, MMO, and FPS titles.

As for STEAMs new Big Picture. Its a great idea and concept for the living room.

As for the article are PCs the Next-gen console? Well yes. Why? They are always on the bleeding edge of gaming technology. GPU power doubles nearly every 1-2 years. CPU power is doubling up with CPU/GPU blends in the future from AMD, Intel, and NVIDIA. A new CPU architecture build is released every couple of years. PCs can touch 4k gaming resolutions. Consoles can't and next-generation will not be able to do so with videogames like a PC can do.

is it a "console" if it plays PC games? built a HTPC myself just for this purpose, connects to my TV and surround sound system, play most games with a xbox controller, and doubles as my DVR.

millertime4401831d ago

its weird, didn't know that my gaming PC was a console, thought it was a platform. Shows how much I know...
