The Wii U has been selling out at several major retailers and sales are expected to increase even more.
I can smell the success (coming)
It was a given since the moment they announced it, this is wii all over again...
Except with better 3rd party games. crosses fingers. LOL
We're not sure what's the maximum pre-order for each store. This is a great way to build hype. Have low amoumt in order to sell out quick and make people think how hard it will be to find. I'll just wait and see how it performs when release.
Woah... Slow down The horses. Is it sold out because it's so popular or because manufacturing has spit out limited supply thus far.
You must also hate puppies
Lol good one pillsbury
Production started at a mere 200,000 a month
No, it's much more than that. I heard around 1 million and even that is a conservative figure.
I'm wondering if they will do a second round of pre orders. If I remember correctly they did that with the Wii
From a business perspective it makes sense. You gotta keep in mind that they will most likely heavily advertise the system closer to launch and they'll want that same "casual" crowd to buy their new system along with other semi-casual gamers (regular 'core' gamers who don't visit game sites or watch reviews or previews) who will rely on adverts to hear new info on games. So in order to get them to buy it it'll have to be somewhat available to them, I think Nintendo will open pre-orders back up next month.
I can hear the excuses already......I have a feeling its going to be a fun time to be around N4G come November....
Luckily I probably won't be around much for that "fun" you speak of. The next three months I have a lot of games I'm getting, along with a new system. :)
Some N4G users live in denial...but but but next gen is not needed. I have had my PS3 and 360 since luanch and games are stating to feel boring and limited. Nintendo will prove that gamers are starving for something new and that thinking that Sony and MS have that nex gen does not start with out them will have them eating crow pie when the see the Wii U selling millions.
Well that's good for Nintendo, who knows how many it has sold so far, but the only thing i don't like its i can't buy the second controller separate yet. I'm going to hold to buy a WiiU until the Ps4 n Xbox720 are out, i want to see what those system have before i make my decision to buy a console for next gen
I really don't understand why anyone wants ninendo to fail, most of us all grew up with nintendo. I have some amazing memories with nintendo from playing Mario bros 3 to being frustrated with the water temple in Zelda. Regardless of wether you think Nintendo only relies on gimmicks if Nintendo dies so does gaming.
Because Sony's the only game company that's allowed to exist apparently.
I see just as many trolls from all camps here
Only fanboys wish ill-will on the company they do not support. I say success to the Big 3, so we can have a continued healthy competition in the industry.
well as long as they arent creating a short supply in order to build hype again. if its really selling out with out nintendo keeping supply low, then kudos to nintendo
Im glad to see they have demand for the console... Im not just on board yet with Wii U cause I was displeased with the Wii... For me what would make me consider one is if the game support really lasts with devs... But my Girlfriend already wants one!
it's ok to be displeased with a corporations vision, but unlike people a company can change because they are financially driven and if they need to change strategy to get a demography on they will do it. If Nintendo wanted to change the current US. CEO and put Barney up there and say from now on the wiiu will be for kids under 10y old they will have to do what is needed. It seems they can keep the wii for the casual crowed and give the core the wiiu. I think their tactic was planned from the get go since the original wii. But seeing games like AC3 and Batman as multiplat already shows it'll be ok for 3rd parties to port.
Pretty easy to sell out when there is no actual product in the store.:) As to what the title is actually referring to, yes, there was a limited allocation to retailers for pre-order, as there will be with every system launching in the next few years. Selling out of pre-order allotment does not mean there will be no retail stock come the 18th, and probably the only way that would happen is if Nintendo somehow sucks in the casual crowd like moths to a flame again.
so either its wait in line for launch or get it on ebay. or like how gamestop did it with the wii in 2007 pay for a wii you are guaranteed a wii by xmas
This is not good but I think I might do the pay now and wait for xmas as my 2 sons are expecting Santa to bring them a Wii U this xmas
well thats if gamestop does it again. idk if they are doing it this year or next year. hopefully they do it
first of all Nintendo botched (intentionally or not) the initial pre-order offer or even the bundle selection itself: it is obvious that N4G heads that read video gaming news on a daily basis are the ones that were going to be watching the Nintendo WiiU final unveiling and pre-ordering instantly the "premium" bundle because a) they're hardcore b) the "basic" offer makes completely no sense, only 50$ (1/6 the price) less and no cradles/stands for the hardware, very limited storage, girly white color, and no flagship minigame collection that's probably a must-have just like Wii Sports was, and it is going to cost above 50$ itself. the above led to a situation where the limited amount of "premium" bundles sold out, leaving the crappy white ones nobody wants come to think of it: i have on idea what the logic is behind the "basic" console is, any thoughts?
yea, so they can sell make $50-$100 dollars more. Lets face it, memory is cheap. Notice how basic consoles have significantly lower HDD space? Like the xbox 360... basic is 4 GB, but for $100 more you get a whopping 250 GB of storage? The amount of storage space in each console doesn't cost them that much more to produce, but it sure lets them charge an extra $50 or $100 bucks per console just by making the "basic" seem like a rip off. Same thing with the wii u... a paltry 8 gb white one, or a significantly better 32 gb version with extra bells and whistles? They are probably making all $50 of the extra $50 they are charging in profit.
