VGChartz: "Final pre-order data for Borderlands 2 is in. The game reached 800,000 pre-orders in the USA and around 1.25 million worldwide."
Epic. How does this compare to Mass Effect 3?
what has Mass Effect 3 do with this? i can't relate it. i can see this game sells max 8M good job Gearbox
Mass Effect 3 is probably the biggest game of the year to date, I'd say Borderlands 2 is about to outdo it...
This is nothing like ME3 and ME3 is not the biggest release of the year either. That's Diablo 3. Heck, even MW3 is a bigger seller than ME3 this year. But, nothing like ME3. You're comparing a TPS RPG with a FPS Diablo-esque.
Well the thing is, just by looking at bmw69 post he is not comparing the type of game that ME3 is compared to Borderlands 2. It looks like he wants the sales numbers and how they compare. A big budget compared to another big budget release.
Diablo 3 might have been one of the most anticipated releases of the year but it turned out to be quite a disappointment unfortunately.
Mass Effect is a TPS in a branched-out yet closed environment in space. It's pretty linear in structure. Borderlands is an open world post apocalyptic FPSRPG based around co-op and looting similar to classic asymmetrical RPGs. Most similar to Rage in environment, but more about the looting and RPG side is focused on custom character over guns. You are always collecting and always getting the bigger and better weapons. Also Borderlands has a really unique artstyle and it's online is much better than most co-op game modes around. Just forget ME3 when you play this, it's a totally different game bro.
Buying 3 copies lol so part of 1.25 million. Getting 2 loot chest editions and one delux edition
Woah 2 loot chests?? Any chance you can sell one to a girl down on her luck? :b
1.24M of those preorders were for Xbox360
Don't know. How about Viva Pinata?
On Steam it's been on top of the Top Sellers since it was available to preorder.
Yeah, it was only briefly passed by CS:GO and a couple of the better sale items.
i'm betting those pre-orders aren't even included in the numbers. it's probably closer to 2 mil. just about everyone i game with on pc (which is a lot) has that pre-loaded on steam.
fist game sucked in my opinion, i may try this one out, i like the artstyle. (oh wait i added my opinion) i better watch out!
@tenton What didn't you like about it? OT, I very happy with how everything is seeming to be going gearbox's way, with this one. In the modern climate of gaming, one little thing can completely derail a game and riddle it with bad public perception.
too much cartoon influence, the points that popped up when you killed an enemy ect, it just wasn't my type of game.
Fair enough, it's your opinion. Could you not expand on it, however, past 'first game sucked'. Why did you think it 'sucked'? If that's all the information you are willing to provide then the eventual backlash should come as no surprise.
Yeah that comes off a little hostile, why not just say what you eventually did, it's not your type of game. That comes across more respectful of others opinions than "that sucks".
So cel shading and rpg aspect make it "suck"? Well, you know what they say about opinions and the other thing.....everyone's got one.
Paid off mine today. Bring on Friday !
I am one of those, cant wait for borderlands 2
Me neither i paid for the pre-order on steam soon as it was available and pre-loaded last night!
Two of those are mine. Cant wait.
Well add one more to the list. Just put mine in today.
Cant wait until next Friday when the game releases here in the UK. Great work Gearbox . Please take note Sony - this is what happens when you REALLY market a game. OT One more thing Sony; please give some SERIOUS thought to Randy Pitchfords wish to see the game ported to Vita. PLEASE.
You mean this Friday.
Thanks, I did.Must be all my excitement ! lol
Midnight launch for me. I'll be the old man in line as usual.
I'm 39 and they call me Mr. Old Fart in midnight lines. I'm like the Gandalf of the mall.
I'm 43 so I guess that makes me Treebeard, young master Gandalf.
Who lines up for midnight launches any more? The games available digitally on consoles AND you can even get it delivered these days a day before release so why bother?
because they usually give out stuff or have some type of event for the game that's being released, and plus its fun meeting some new gamers
Judging from the midnight launches I've been to, lots of people line up for them.
The fact that they did not add a loot system is pissing me off.
Care to elaborate?
In the original Borderlands there was no loot system, so if a super item dropped and you play with unknown players you can bet that in 3 of 5 times one of them will take the item even if it aint a main weapon they use. This was something many were complaining about back then, now B2 is here and they have done nothing and all they say is that one should play with people you trust... And that...is pissing me off. It wouldn't be that hard to make a looting system like in Diablo 3 or something where everything that drops is your personalized loot.
Man I hate loot system that only drops items for one person, I find collaborating with people satisfying also seeing the loot with your friends is awesome. All I can say is that get better friends.
I get what ur saying, but i think they did that on purpose. At least with the weapons you pick up. Because lets be honest, your inventory would clog up if you get all the stuff your 3 co-op friends pick up. But there actually was a sort of a 'loot system' with the original borderlands with the weapons (and claptrap rewards) you get from completing missions, every player gets the reward. Not just the one that turns in the mission Same goes for money, all players get money if 1 picks it up. Even though you might not instantly get the super weapons your co-op partner picked up, you can easily trade stuff by duping the weapons by saving the game, then drop the guns and leave without saving (getting kicked, going to dashboard, Alt-F4 etc. Imo this was something that made the game even more fun, since you trade ur good stuff with friends and new people for their good stuff like stuff you never found or modded guns :D
I got to say this Some of this is thanks to borderlands being free on ps+ it’s boosted the pre-ordered for borderlands 2
Got mine pre-ordered already as well. This, Halo 4, NBA 2K13, and Assasin's Creed is all I will be getting this year.
Finally just finished Comet Crash so i'll either get round to Borderlands next or Tomb Raider Guardian of Light or Scott Pilgrim.... Gotta love PS+
i cant wait for this game it just sucks that im broke as a joke with madden and now this part 1 was alot of fun for me
I dont think it will sell very well but wish them all the best with the game ill bargin bin it.
Based on the surprising performance and sales of the original and these preorder numbers, Id say your "prediction" is a greatly uneducated one.
pre-loaded and itching to play! need some steam friends also i has 1 lol (weeweeface)
Just the one? Suppose it's better than none at all.
Who are you guys playing as?
I'm thinking Zero will be my first character. That or Axton. Haven't made up my mind yet.
I always pick the hot chick as my main character :)
I think i will pick zero as well, im just afraid im gonna see them every where xD much like the siren and mordocai with borderlands 1. But idk, judging by the character gameplays i watched, its gonna be fun and a different experience to play as every class. You can even share your badass points between all your characters, so why not play as all 4 :)
This is great. It wasn't too long ago that Take-Two was having some serious financial problems along with rumored buyouts. Now look at them, they have new blockbuster franchises like Red Dead, Borderlands, and Bioshock along with their longtime blockbusters. If they keep the good games coming, we'll keep on buying.
Vgtards. People still read "stories" from this pro-xbox founder site that refuses to discuss anything negatively against the box?
