The Draw of Side Quests

How important are side quests in games? (Dead Island, Oblivion, PS3, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim)

Side quests are great when they don't feel like side quests. Also, even though they should be fun and not repetitive, they shouldn't be better than the main quest.

I thought the side quests in Skyrim were just as good as the main quests. They werent stellar but they were good. Deus ex hr had great side quests.

Side quests in skyrim were just bunch of fetch quest...fallout 3 imo had d best side quests
