Which Nintendo Console Launch Is The Best? An Overly Elaborate Analysis

Yesterday Nintendo laid out their Wii U launch plans in detail. How's it stack up against it's past console launches? (Nintendo, Retro, Wii U)

Gamecube was the last good Nintendo console which had a good launch . That's when Nintendo wasn't relying on gimmicks and they had a proper controller. The best controller they've ever made.

Oy. It must be easy to be so short-sighted that you can judge consoles by virtue of their general play style.

I really wonder if you even know the meaning of the word gimmick.

I disagree, mostly because I hate the GameCube and its controller. N64 was the last Nintendo console I didn't regret buying.

I agree. The Gamecube was the last Nintendo console I could actually sit down with and have a proper gaming session without having all these stupid gimmicks shoved into the games.

I wouldn't say the best controller they've made, but definitely the last good console they made.

The Wii had some solid titles come and go, but it definitely had a lackluster console launch when compared to others. Also didn't help how so many consumers got easily bored with Wii Sports.

I got a Wii simply because Twilight Princess was a launch title, and it was such a great game.

The Wii launched with TP. Wii had the best launch. GC had a higher number of quality games than the Wii at launch, but a Nintendo console needs to try really hard if it is to beat a Nintendo console launching with Zelda.

"The NES' pack-ins forced kids into a real 8-bit Sophie's choice"

That line cracked me up... I agree with most of what the author had to say. Fun read.

SNES!

Mario World, Super Castlevania, Super Ghouls n Ghosts, Actraiser.

Now keep in mind that this was a long time ago so i am not certain if these were actually available at launch but I do remember playing them as soon as i got my SNES.

This is the last time I remember being excited about a nintendo console. But no lie, the Wii U has me excited.

The NES destroys all Nintendo systems that came after.

Well the controller is a huge part of it, since you are using it for every game.

That is the reason I never bought a wii and the reason I've never bought a playstation. I like both systems a lot but I can't stand the controllers. Sony's analogs both being low & close together is just so...not sure how to say it...

It just doesn't work as well as the 360's controller, which fits perfect in hand and plays amazing.
