"After watching the Nintendo Direct Wii U Preview Event, it’s safe to say that Nintendo is on top of their game. Admittedly, I was skeptical about how the Wii U would revolutionize the gaming industry, fearing that the controversial Gamepad would turn out to be just another disappointing gimmick, much in the way the Wii’s motion controls were. However, all of that has changed, and Nintendo is definitely on the right track to creating one of the most unique and engaging consoles the industry has seen. Here’s why."
I am not going to agree or disagree. i will say this. there is more to a platform than just the technical abilities.
It can only be as good as the sum of its parts. by that would be the games and how well the developers use all the resources at their disposal.
good post.
look at the moronic fanboys who think the wii was the best console this gen haha. they think it because it sold the most, yet it was played the least and had the least good software.
i mean which "best" is this artcle speaking of? selling? games? tech? or is it just pure fanboyism???? im betting fanboyism
Why are you trolling every Ninty/Wii U article?
nintendo is behind the times. they aren't in touch with the majority of the market. it's pretty obvious.
i know there are still a lot of nintendo fanboys out there. i used to be one of them. til gamecube when i finally learned my lesson. it's time to recognize quality for quality and not project what we want into something that isn't there.
When did having the most impressive tech instantly make it the better console? Yes, I'm aware that the better tech you have, the more things you can do in a game.
That being said, it really should be all about the games. PS2 was weak compared to the Xbox/Gamecube, yet it's possibly the best console in history, thanks to its gigantic library of amazing games.
The Wii might have sold well, but that doesn't make it a great console. It had a good selection of first-party titles, as did the Gamecube, but it lacked third-party titles to help put it over the edge. I feel the 360 was the opposite of the Wii; it had all the great third-party titles, but I've never been a big fan of any of the MS exclusives, except for Halo. Sony's PS3 has probably been the best console this gen thanks to the good first- and third-party support.
Now, back to the WiiU. It seems that third-party developers are somewhat more inclined to develop for it (some like Ubisoft and Platinum Games seem to be happy with it, but Bethesda/Rockstar aren't entirely sure what to make of it yet). If the WiiU can get as much third-party support, and not be too underpowered as compared to the PS4/NeXtbox, combined with it's stellar first-party titles, then I could totally see Nintendo having the best console for the next-gen.
But hey, Sony's won that competition the last two gens, in my mind, Nintendo has work to do.
No one could possibly say that the WiiU will be "the best "Next-Gen" console" when none of the othere are out, nor the WiiU yet. I'm not going to even touch the WiiU for the next 2 years afters its release even that I still might not depending on the other two consoles, I really want to see what Sony and MS are cooking up first.
i recall psp having much greater graphics than the ds
but i ended up playing my ds 90% more than my psp because of its fun games
So you say that the PS2 was the most shitty console of the last generation? Because it was weaker than Gamecube or Xbox (and not proven more powerful than Dreamcast)
Lol
I like people with not fully developed brains they make for alot of funny moments online ;)
"gamers"
i see a lot of ppl who play games. i don't see many gamers on n4g.
I believe Nintendo knows they probably won't be able to rely on the sales from the casual market like with the Wii launch, just because the novelty factor isn't there for the Wii U.
-but truth be told this is the worst time to launch a slightly better console then current gen.
Nothing against Wii U but it's coming in a really tough spot - one it's not that much better in performance then PS3 or X360 and by that I mean the games like Assassin III and Black ops 2 for example will not play or look any better on the system. (nothing more then a little sharper)
Not to mention it's own games like Zombie U are not really taking things to a new graphics level..
yes graphics are not everything but don't fool yourself they are still 75 percent of why most people decide to get a game..
Then there is the PS4 and X720 which are both right around the corner, now I don't know about you, but most people are not getting all 3 systems this time around.
Especially when nex gen could end up costing $600 to $700 for the new consoles..
So chances are most people will only buy one... no more owning all three systems this time around -some will but most people will only buy one.
So with the nex gen PS4 and X720 said to have avatar graphics, Wii U is going to be looking really out of date in just one year of owning it...
Nintendo is in a tough spot because the smart gamers are going to wait and the closer you get to PS4 and X720 the more the Wii U becomes an after thought..
In one years time a Wii U will be a dinosaur in the console world - that's terrible considering how much it cost. -Better to just save that money and put it on your PS4 or X720

I do believe, however, the nextbox/ps4 will boast more capable graphics than the wii u but that's common tech sense(newer hardware, better visuals) but I don't believe the graphics will be darn-near CGI visuals and my reasoning for that is because if u look at the most advanced high-end graphics cards out right now, they don't look like they are on that level. And seeing as tho MS/Sony will be placing 2012 gpus in their next systems(at best) I don't see how it could completely crush the wii u visually.
Marginally, yes. Monumental? No.
As far as the article goes I do think the writer was a bit over-zealous but the term "better" is absolutely subjective there isn't a way you can prove that so I take it with a grain of salt. I do believe that the next Gen will be less about power and more about social integration and gameplay styles tho, and I don't think that's bad at all.
So tell me... how exactly is this the "best" next gen system?
Specs wise both won't and ms will out do it no doubt about it. And I think they are looking at wiiu price and saying we can get in on that range.
Nintendo has a hard road ahead because of their history with 3rd party and their lack of any talk about online services to play games. While both ms and Sony have established a great working online structure and can focus on improving the tech because games support will be there 3rd party.
Also to all Nintendo fangirls(y'all don't deserve to be called fanboys because Nintendo to be is about casual kids friendly) go back and look at wii launch lineup and you will see it had great games up front but than from 3rd party prospective that died out slowly. It had a Mario,Zelda and COD so let's not act like just because it has some games at launch that it will do great. Where is borderlands2?
I am excited about wiiu as much as the next guy but with Nintendo's history I may wat a year to see what the other 2have to offere before deciding which 2 home consoles I want to buy
How many people owning a 360 or a PS3 will buy a WiiU based on whats been shown?
How well wil 3rd parties like PG and Ubisoft do with their more mature titles considering this en, the Wii had problems with 3rd party not due to lack of support from the big N but due to consumers not being interested in their games as much as Mario games and casual games.
Taking the abobe into consideration and then the unveiling of the next Sony and MS console, how will 3rd parties react as well as consumers.
Also, the Sony and MS consoles are becoming more and more devices which are there to take centre stage in your living room: movies, music, games and more. The WiiU still lacks in this department unfortunately with no BluRay or DVD support.
I find the game thing interesting because Nintendo themselves have only really shown one game (by them) that is in a way more "mature". The list mentioned are all third party and mostly multiplatform and it would be stupid for a developer to ignore the new system.
arent we all gaming in last generation? by that im referring to d-pad and buttons. We may have evolved from 1 button to many but its still the same old same old.
It doent matter whats under the hood. Its the skills of the driver.
Ps4:gpu a custom radeon Pitcairn gpu, high end powervr series 6,CPU: revised cell CPU,amd APu.
Nextbox 720: there hasn't been specific enough details regarding what will be in side but here's what I've read,a six core CPU and two GPUs or this one because Ms pulled this,a eight core arm CPU plus the 360 for backwards compatibility and radeon based gpu.
do you know there are $1200 graphics cards on the market right now? I'm not even talking about the rest of a PC I'm talking only about a card. So Sony and MS are stuck. If they want to make there system look noticeably WOW! better then WiiU expect $2999 USA dollars or they can match the WiiU price and make it 10% better.
Can't make such a claim this early into the next gen. You have no idea what the other consoles have planned. It's fine if you are excited about the Wii U. But don't get silly here.
"Nintendo don`t deliver cheesy teenagers games like cod, gow,me,halo, killzone, gears ,gta. So yes they know the drill."
Good tell them to advance out of pre k already, at least those "cheesy teenagers games" don't dumb everything down so a four yr old could play or understand it.
Seriously why do nintendo fanatics, act like nintendo games are works of shakespeare or deeply meaningful experiences.
Try again when mario or zelda has a relevant story, or a personality for a change.
Meanwhile, I agree with you on the Mario front. Mario just needs to move out of Mushroom Kingdom and find another princess that he doesn't have to save every fucking week. XD
Ah complex timeline, i know kojima gets crap for his complicated timeline, but zelda is either a completely different link each time or something because it is too wacky.
Nintendo's main series are still usually very good games, but they refuse to move beyond the snes or gamecube in some of their design choices.
Some people are fine with that, other expects our medium to evolve to be offer more depth like books or movies(well the good ones anyway).
I actually figured xenoblade, would demolish zelda, in regards to having a real good story line. It's done by the father of the ff series, i believe.
Other than switching from 2d sidescrolling to a 3 dimensional world, and better graphics, nintendo hasn't really advanced much since the snes to me.
I swear, people hype things in the weirdest ways...
still, somethings better than nothing, and nintendo has a nice laibrary of backwards compat with wii, plus, i am hoping for some 1080p zelda and matroid and castlevania besides what i play on my pc with the AWESOME dolphin emulator.
ps4/720 will be last gen compared to a 1 year old gaming pc, let alone a gtx680 i-7 build of today that will SMASH anything ps4/nextbox ever do
until next year when the PS4/720 comes out. ;)
Thats what brainless systems like this do.
