Chris Buffa (Modojo): When it comes to iPhone and iPad, 2D graphics don't get much better than Apocalypse Max: Better Dead Than Undead, a side-scrolling zombie shooter from Wandake Studios. Believe it or not, this game is on par visually with titles from Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network, with a variety of unique environments dripping with detail, a noticeable lack of jaggies and some of the coolest death animations we've seen, with monsters getting cut in half and their guts spilling across the ground. Suffice to say, it's a game you'll enthusiastically want to show off to your friends. Oh yeah, and you can shoot zombies and stuff.
Carl Williams writes, "The zombie apocalypse is a popular point in fiction. We have seen this event play out in movies, books, cartoons and television shows among many other facets of entertainment. Particularly in video games this is a popular vantage point to play from. We have seen it in Resident Evil and in many other games. Apocalypse Max is taking this event and running wild with it. Just make sure you have something with physical buttons because this game doesn’t let up."
TouchGen: Being a humongous fan of the Metal Slug series I was mesmerized by the gameplay Apocalypse Max promised: a combination of Metal Slug, and zombies couldn’t go wrong. Playing the tutorial was as usual a pain in the behind having to go through yet another boot camp. Once over, and I got to fight zombies spawning from the ground this sensation of waiting for something to get going ensued. It never went away during the first worlds, and when the game came to an end I was left feeling quite puzzled.
I recently disocvered Apocalypse Max and holy shit does this look bad ass. If you’re a fan of Mad Max and read the title then you can probably assume that the world has gone to hell and you’re on your own. In Apocalypse Max not only are you alone, but the world has been completely over run by zombies. I’m begging you to check out the trailer below so you’ll see why I’m totally nerding out right now.
