Ted Price talks about the birth of Insomniac, “We got rejected by every single publisher”

I was recently lucky enough to visit Insomniac to get the latest info on Fuse, its new shooter. While I was there I also interviewed founder Ted Price about the company’s history from start to finish, including a lucky last chance. (Dev, Industry, Insomniac Games, PS2, PS3)

Yet you pretty much walk away from the one that did pick you up.... Nice.... JK They just haven't made anything that wanted to play lately hopefully Resistance will be passed on to a new dev. I really enjoyed Resistance 1 but found the other two lacking in many areas.

Their first publisher was Universal

Yes and ironically Activision is the end product of universal since vivendi owns universal and merged it with acti when they bought them out.

unlike most of the people on this site i'll reserve judgment until i see more of this game.

R&C is one of my favorite franchises, along with Resistance. i will not abandon this company just because they went multi-platform, and have changed their vision of Overstrike.

...and now you're making FaceBook games for EA. How admirable.

With being under EA now, Fuse will one day tell the tale of the studios death

Sorry Insomniac but after that horrible trailer its already started

I find it funny how they wanted to remain independent so they would be free in development and EA has basicaly put their man spuds in vice. You had a good thing going with Sony....why ruin it.

Ya the game seems really generic. Gametrailers tv did a whole episode about the game and I honestly was not impressed. I think Insomniac should stick with Sony and just create platformers.

Now Insomniac gets to find our how dishonest and fickle the Sony fandom is and how utterly worthless and rehearsed all the praises they received in the past for all their exclusive games really were. Now they get to find out why most of their sales this gen have been middling at best and why their games did not drive people to purchase PS3's in great numbers. Poor bastards. Reality can be so cold.

As good as Resistance is, it has been part of Insomniac's downfall. I'm disappointed that they were doing so well even near reaching Pixar quality with their games and then made an FPS.

Insomniac should have continued the trend and made a new IP with the quality and humour and genre of their previous games. (Spyro and Ratchet)

Fuse looks to be going even further downhill.

That is crap. What does making an FPS have to do with their downfall. Just because they wanted to expand their imagination instead of just standing in place like most developers do? why must Insomniac be punished and criticized just because they wanted to try something else. At least they weren't crapping out the same thing year after year like many developers do. Why should developers get blighted and attacked for going another way? It was a good FPS. Spyro and Ratchet had nothing to do with it. They still made good Ratchet games even when they were making Resistance.Sony and friends know when to branch out in different directions to test those waters instead of just making the same genre over and over again, afraid to go anywhere else.More developers should think like that. It would definitely be good for everyone

They should go where the market is needed and that isn't FPS. FPS is an extremely oversaturated market and you've got to admit the quality of their Ratchet titles are far better than Resistance.

I'm not saying they should stand still but instead focus on an underused genre such as the Ratchet and Spyro games.

"No-one wanted us, no-one would stoop that low.....then there was EA!!!"

Sorry Insomniac, that joke was for EA, not you guys.

I personally can't imagine why someone wouldn't want Insomniac. The ratchet series is amazing (1,2,3,Gladiator, TOD etc) and the Resistance series was heaps of fun (underrated series FTW!).

Although I hate EA with a passion, I hope Insomniac find their spark and make a great product. They deserve it.

Honestly after resistance 1, insomniac pretty much lost its touch in my eyes. I wish this wasnt the case because I remember seeing ratchet and clank for the first time at E3 back when ps3 was just starting out and was blown away at how amazing the game looked. Then resistance 1 came around and again, I was amazed at how fantastic that game was and put hours upon hours into that game. After that the resistance series and even the ratchet and clank series seemed a bit stale. I just hope they figure out what they want to do because fuse does not interest me one bit
