no yearly generic releases that have no effort put into making the game feel new again, are ruining the first person shooter. Also the over-saturation of them.
I agree. If COD actually innovated each game it would be different.
Look at halo for example. As Soon as it began I get stale (reach) they started changing the franchise up a bit while it still maintains its personality (4).
Most series do this but for some reason cod won't.
I don't think online is killing it, I think greedy publishers are ruining it. COD yearly complete with 10 wannabe COD titles every few months....Go to a Game section see 10 FPS titles for every game in a different genre.
Remember Unreal Tournament? It was all about multi-player (not saying its gone) Had crap tons of expansions, maps, and felt like a complete game. Let alone each new game was a tremendous change and improvement on the last.
jump to today. You want a complete game? Well pay 60 bucks for the game, then 15 dollars for 4 or 5 separate "expansion packs" That new Game Sequel that just came out? Yeah its nothing more than an overpriced expansion pack that won't work with the past game.
As for single player I do think online is killing THAT. Medal of Honor used to have some extremely awesome and in-depth single player stories. Doom was a leading FPS, etc...today you are lucky to get 8 hours out of it before being forced to jump online.

Everyone was "GREAT" at FPS games when they get to beat their same friends over and over again.
Now we have those online and we get to see who really is the best. o and cheating was around before online gaming too.
