100% Free DLC — Why You Should Support Tekken Tag Tournament 2

An eGamer journalist looks at the gaming industry's DLC policy and commends Tekken Tag Tournament 2's approach. (Industry, PS3, Tekken Tag Tournament 2, Xbox 360)

It really is sad the developers milk their consumers with DLC. That being said, I'm really excited for TTT2!

How is something that is a choice milking a consumer?
Volcre  +   772d ago
It's milking when you promise that the game is going to have a massive character roster and a character colorization system and an extensive gem system and then lots of characters are locked, the colours have to be downloaded in packs and the game comes packaged with only a few gems unless you download more. That sounds like milking to me.

Oh and Marvel vs Capcom 3. 3 months later they released an updated version with all the features that were asked for in the first place. Making you pay twice in the same year for the same game? Choice or not, that's milking.

Well said. I was thinking of DLC for games like Gears, Bordelands
Fallout, not costumes, and things of that nature. Forgive the tunnel vision.

I remember reading that not all dlc content will be free. Tekken tunes will have paid music. Of couse, it was said that characters, stages and clothing will be free, so we should be happy
terrorofdeath  +   772d ago
Free DLC means that it was originally there in the game but they took it out, and now try to gain popularity by calling it "free" DLC.
Tody_ZA  +   772d ago
Even so, it's much nicer than what Capcom did. Which is: complete a game and then lock away characters and make them paid DLC. Without the 'Free DLC' Tekken has more characters and features. And they're promising to develop more in the future for free too.

Whatever they want to brand it as, it's a win for us gamers in a time where developers just like to milk us.
Aberdasher  +   772d ago
In this particular instance, it matters not if the content they will be offering free was "already in the game" because we are not having to pay to actually use it. We're not paying 5 bucks for a 100KB unlock file. So pardon me if I fail to see the issue in offering free DLC for their game. More developers need to do this.

The easiest way to prove the point...
DOA5 launches at the end of the year and has swimsuit costumes... If you pay extra for the collectors edition.
Tekken launches just two weeks before, and suddenly also has swimsuits DLC... Completely free of charge. Nothing like giving the competition the middle finger.

OMG I literally forgot Tekken Tag 2 was even out today, now I mentioned it! Better go pick it up XD

Maybe the character models are done but none of the animation or balancing. Then when the game goes gold and nothing can be changed boom, release it as free DLC.

Hey if you don’t like “ FREE” I’m pretty sure you can donate 50 bucks to them I’m pretty sure they have a donation box somewhere on their site.

Who cares if DLC was on the game and there trying to gain popularity over it. It’s a fighting game you either like it or you don’t. Plus a lot of times it takes one developer to change a developer. Now that not saying that every developer will make all the DLC free but maybe it will change how much they put out there for free.

The bottom line is its FREE get over it, and it sound like to me you just wanted to bitch about something with no mean necessary.

Have A Nice Day!!!

Haha gosh relax it was just my opinion. Didn't say there was something wrong in getting free content, it just seemed like they were trying to earn respect by calling it free. Like say for example if the content was indeed already in the disk, they could have just kept it there instead of taking it out and calling it free DLC.

Apologies for sounding like a troll in my earlier comment. It is indeed a win-win situation for us gamers and leads to more bang for our buck, which more developers need to realise, instead of charging for DLC.

terrorofdeath if it's your opinion to bitch about free stuff it's a stupid one

My theory is maybe the character models are done but none of the animation or balancing. Then when the game goes gold and nothing can be changed boom, release it as free DLC.

This is why to the end of day I would not buy the damn characters DLC pack for my SFxT because Crapcom is being too lame to sell "Disc Loaded Content" for extra.

And despite that I have never been a Tekken fan. Only played Tekken 2 on PS1 with my ex girl friend and never play the rest of the series ever since. I still choose to buy TTT2 on it's release day and learn to play it again. Such developers are the ones that we should truly support them and appreciate their work.

Am I missing something here? Nothing is free because you have to purchase the game. What I do see is a clever marketing ploy to get me and others to purchase the game :)
