Joystiq:
Last year at E3, Insomniac revealed a brand new IP called Overstrike, complete with a slickly animated trailer featuring four elite spy types using futuristic weapons to take down a robotic bad guy. After that, we didn't hear much about the game at all, save for a few recent rumors that Insomniac was rebranding it as a game called Fuse. It turns out the rumors are indeed true: Insomniac's Fuse is what Overstrike has turned into, and it's a third-person co-op cross-platform shooter that's coming to the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 in March 2013.
This should of been at E3
"Overstrike was a game more centered on using four different support-style characters to work together in stealth situations, and you can see that concept at work in the original trailer. But as Insomniac worked on development, according to Price, the play between the characters just wasn't satisfying enough."
So like Borderlands each character would of had a differn't styles in combat...I'm sorry but who wouldn't of liked that. Even playing by your self it would of been nice to carefully choose your character and her/his skill set. Actually can you play by your self or do you have to have AIs with you ?
That being said, I'm a bit worried about this game If it does come out in March 2013. There was no E3, Gamescon, and likely no TGS showing of this game and the last "major show" would be the VGA's. It seems like it's gone from an ambitious co-op experience rivaling the best out there, to a simplified co-op shooter with unique weapons.
I hope that's not the case. Best of luck to you Insomniac.
I love Fall of Man and Ratchet but I really think this game will fail.
I hate to jump on that bandwagon, but that interview read awfully similar to the Dead Space 3 ones..
"EA is soo good to us! So much freedom! - Gamers will love it! They just don't know, yet! The change is for the better, it feels soo unique and fresh now! We're still true to ourselves!"
A 4-Player Co-op Stealth Game with kick-ass art style, slap stick elements and humoristic and unique characters with each having their own strenghts, sounds like one of the coolest and freshest games in YEARS.
FUSE does NOT.
The screenshots look just as generic as the "Mission Briefing-Teaser" implied. Take some of Army of Two here, and a little bit of Mass Effect there and you pretty much have Fuse. (EA again.. Coincidence?)
I'm sure the weapons will kick ass. They always do in Insomniac Games' titles, but they are not enough to make me buy the game.
Overstrike had the potential to be something truly special, and it simply angers me to see the creativity and potential of the original vision go to waste.
