Resident Evil 6: 11 important changes that make it play unlike any Resident Evil | GamesRadar

GamesRadar:

Resident Evil 6 is not like any Resident Evil you’ve played before. On first glance it looks familiar enough. Maybe even overly so. But Resident Evil 6 actually works very, very differently. (PC, PS3, Resident Evil 6, Xbox 360)

All of the RE haters need to read this. Capcom really changed alot in this game. You can tell they invested alot of time and money into this game but for some reason these so called fans ignore that. You guys always complaining about Capcom not investing time and money into their games but here is RE6. A major upgrade from RE5 but you guys still say negative things about it.

Reading that article made me even more hype for this. This game is going to be awesome. I just can't wait!

I agree with you fully. This article has got me pretty pumped for this game!

Because when they made RE5 we complained we wanted it to go back to what made RE great...and I'm not saying we wanted fixed camera angles, tank controls or anything which would make RE take a step back just for them to expand on what they did with RE4 while still including horror elements. RE4 was amazing but for RE5 they could of added more horror and more scares to improve it but they didn't...fans complained and what did we get, we got something 10 times worse then RE5, something which totaly seperates the game from the RE name. Co-op for example...we aksed for it to be removed, they still included it and expanded on it, we wanted more horror and less action scenes they did the opposite and ignored it...do you see why theres hate, Capcom deserve it because they don't listen.

"A major upgrade from RE5 but you guys still say negative things about it."

A major upgrade in the WRONG direction

I get it Mika you obviously didn't care for the old RE games and like the next direction it's going in because it now appeals to you. Well guess what your not a fan of RE because the games you now like are nothing like RE at all, they are just generic third person over the top action games with the RE brand slapped on as the title.

You want to know the sad part about RE5 aswell...before they added co-op it sounded amazing

I couldn't agree more Mr. Carl Chryniszzswics. Literally, it only lets you agree once Ha :b

But on a serious note, i had not read those early Re5 concepts. Makes you sad to think of what might have been,,,, Not only for Resident Evil 5 but the for the future of the series aswell. SMH

Ok, ok MikeCosgrove, opps, I mean Carl. Whats with this "WE" this and "WE" that? Who? Becuz all of the ppl who actually buy the games and wanted their opinions heard went to Capcom/RE's official site and posted in those forums. The general consensus over there is co-op is a welcomed feature. RE5's lack of environmental horror is the only issue. RE6's Leon campaign delivers on that. To deny the environmental elements in his campaign is blind hatred. Keep in mind you said that tank controls shouldnt return. So, using the diving and rolling features makes it less "scary" rebuttle, is void.

I love every RE for one thing or another. So, that makes me not a fan? Your "idea" of what a fan is, is very skewed. This catch phrase you lackys have clinged to is getting pathetic. "RE isnt scary anymore." It NEVER was to begin with. Your attempts of resurrecting nostalgia is laughable. I wish FPS' had a decent AI like Perfect Dark did, but it'll never happen. RE6 is mixing old with new in attempts to satisfy some so-called "purist" fan base. The once small outbreak has become a global epidemic. Being more action oriented makes sense with the story, but not to ppl like you.

Thinking on the zombie genre in general. George Romero, the inventor, of the zombie genre has even experimented with the evolution of zombies. In Land of the Dead a zombie gains motorfunctions and awareness to use a firearm and command his own zombie "army." The zombie genre is trying to evolve and ppl, maybe you too, keep trying to portray zombies as walking corpses. There was a time when "running" zombies were frowned upon, until Dawn of the Dead Remake mastered it. Now its accepted. One day narrowed minded wannabe zombie fans will let the dead "evolve."

@ Revolver_X_

The fact is, they've added co-op to every campaign. Leon, Chris and Jake. It removes any sort of tension/horror element there is. You were mostly alone in RE4 and that added immensely to the tension. The survival of it all. It's part of what I loved about the series up to that point.

And yes... the games always WERE scary. Unless you've only recently played them, I don't know how they cannot be considered some of the most tense games of their time. RE4 was undoubtedly scary and tense.

RE5 wasn't really scary partly because of Sheva, and being helped out every time you were low on health.

RE6:

Leon's campaign. If you think this is scary then I don't know what to say. http://www.youtube.com/watc...
It's the closest your gonna get to "survival horror" in this game and it's only 1/3 of what series fans truly care about, but still... look at that godawful slide n' shoot mechanic they got going there. Resi is meant to be tense, not a Jason Statham movie.

Then the Chris campaign (these impressions are all based on the demo btw). It's nothing more than a third person shooter travesty. Just look. http://www.youtube.com/watc... Awful, generic, non-exhilarating. Not even as interesting as Binary Domain.

I'd say Jake has a relatively interesting campaign, but the co-op.. just.. gah! It's still shoot, shoot, action, explosion. No horror. You shooting at zombies - them shooting back at you. Just wrong.

"There was a time when "running" zombies were frowned upon, until Dawn of the Dead Remake mastered it."

28 Days later had the most convincing background and infected. They ran after prey and that was 2 years before Dawn of the Dead remake.

Land of the Dead is a pulp film. It's a semi-parody upon itself. The fact that the zombies have intelligence to evolve and use firearms is a tongue in cheek direction from Romero. Resident Evil is meant to be campy in terms of story and character, but the scares are still meant to be there, but they are absent from this and Resident Evil is not meant to be pulp. It's meant to be tense and shocking.

Why do you always call me MikeCosgrove, you called me this in the last RE article when I first joined and I still don't have a clue who he is, so I'm guessing this user just has the same opinion as me but then again theres a lot of people on here who have the same opinion so are are we all the same people then...<sigh>

As soon as you said RE was never scary then your whole argument becomes invalid and you comment becomes pointless. I bet in reality you never cared for the old RE games that much...like most people who defend RE6 that say they have played them but obviously havent.

Fans don't doubt they invested work and money into the game but the direction they have invested in, that's the problem.

But I love how the article says "Resi 6 does aim to create a new kind of horror through a fast, utterly in-your-face sense of panic and uncertainty. " when Nemesis accomplished a long time ago.

Accomplished and perfected back in RE3. There was nothing worse/scarier than Nemesis following you all game and suddenly, when you enter a room with only 1 exit, he either opens the door or bashes through a wall!.... Now that I think about it, RE2 did all this first with Mr. X durring the 2ed scenario. So all Capcom has done was make its controls marginally better, but every other aspect of the franchise has either been changed drastically or completely abandoned (anyone remember the viruses that were spreading, T & G viruses, as oppose to the alien-like Las Plagas?) The CG movies have done a better job with continuity & keeping the main focus on the spreading viruses and..... ZOMBIES, not hosts to a parasite!

I don't disagree with anything there. I bitch about Capcom only for non-RE things like releasing Street Fighter 4 enough times to make your head spin - or f-ing up shipping of their products so badly that it takes 14 days to go from West Coast to East Coast. I think I made the trip faster when I played Oregon Trail!
MrMister  +   251d ago
So what if they invested money in it? Activision invests tons of money in COD (through adverts and endorsements) yet that series is still crap. WTF does money have to do with the gameplay choices that a developer decides to add? The best games this gen were indie games. Capcom deliberately tried to get the COD/Gears crowd. A gameplay style that is as far from RE as it gets.

You know, your a fool for making such assumptions, right?

@Revolver X

Ahh yes evolution, the reason why Socom 4 played like Call Of Duty 3rd Person and the reason why Resident Evil 6 changed genres and included perks.

Old school fans don't want it to play the exact same way as the Resident Evil 1 through 3. We just want a reason to call the game a survival horror. Enemies dropping ammo isn't survival, going hand to hand with the undead is supposed to be suicide because they are supposed to be much more powerful than the normal human being. So what if some people didn't find the originals scary but it required way more thinking than previous titles because of the limited resources and formidable foes which everyone can agree with.

Damn, even the text book for my game development class, Fundamentals Of Game Development (writeen by Heather Maxwell Chandler and Rafael Chandler) is the name of our text book by the way, clearly states survival horror as follows....

"The developers strive to create a sense of trepidation and shock by limiting the player's resources, using darkness to obscure creatures and objects and deliberately making it harder to see what's around the corner through the use of camera angles. Though some of the decisions are judged as poor design in other genres, fans of these games consider these to be attractive elements of survival horror." -page 122

Survival horror wasn't made to please everyone. Either you like it or don't however if a game breaks the rules of almost everything that made it what it was than it isn't evolution....IT'S ANOTHER GAME!

What's right with the goose might not be right for the gander.....

Thanks! Was just wondering which school was using our book. I hope you're enjoying it!

For the record, my favorite was RE2. I still play it from time to time.
