I am so happy to see Final Fantasy IX, Breath of Fire III, and Grandia II on this list. These are some of my all-time favorite RPGs, and I have spent countless hours playing these games.
What made Grandia 2 so great that it can go alongside FF9 and Breath of Fire 3? I just couldn't get into the game.. I know it's typical for rpg sequels to have completely new cast it just wasn't the same without Justin and Feena.
I really, really don't want to start any flame bait--I just want to ask an honest question without drawing any hate:
What was so great about FF 9's story? Also, the gameplay was not so great to me, because you could not really control how your character evolved, you just earned your abilities, magic, summons by simply leveling up (something you would have done anyway). At least in FF 7 and 8, you had more control by combining usage of different Materia, or utilizing the junction system and drawing up different magics, creating weapons yourself instead of simply buying them, etc.
Also it seemed like FF 7 and 8's story's were more engaging (dealing with topics like betrayal, love, colonization (in sepheroth's case), abandonment (Squall), friendship, etc). So as you guessed, i never quite understood FF 9's appeal as much as most people do. And that's okay, but Id like for people to actually tell me the REASON'S for why they think FF 9 was good (gameplay mechanic and story wise).
But every time I ask this question on forums, people get pissed, yet can never give an answer. So please don't be pissed, I just wan't to know what it is that people saw in it, that I didn't.
I think the FF games 7-9 should of been in the top 10
How i miss the FF series, it used to be so "exceptional", not good, not great but amazingly "exceptionally" good
