IGN continues their Top RPGs of All Time list today by adding #89-70. This whole week IGN are adding more RPGs to the list, until the entire list is complete on Friday.
I am so happy to see Final Fantasy IX, Breath of Fire III, and Grandia II on this list. These are some of my all-time favorite RPGs, and I have spent countless hours playing these games.
Same here FFIX was/is amazing! also Grandia II is an all time classic I'm glad to see Skies Of Arcadia too.
Skies of Arcadia is another one of my top 10 RPGs definitely, it is so ahead of its time it's ridiclous. When I played it I was completely blown away
IMO, FF 9's story wasn't all that spectacular. I prefered 7 and 8's stories. Also, I agree, Breath of Fire 3 was a great story/rpg.
What made Grandia 2 so great that it can go alongside FF9 and Breath of Fire 3? I just couldn't get into the game.. I know it's typical for rpg sequels to have completely new cast it just wasn't the same without Justin and Feena.
Me aswell but I don't understand how FF9 beat FF8 I think the FF games 7-9 should of been in the top 10
Then make a list and put it up on n4g for everyone to scrutinize it.
I concur. I always see people talking about the original Grandia, but Grandia II blows it out of the fucking water IMHO.
Final Fantasy 9 and Persona 4 should be in the top 20 at least. How i miss the FF series, it used to be so "exceptional", not good, not great but amazingly "exceptionally" good
If I personally made a top RPGs of all time list, Final Fantasy IX would definitely be in the top 10 somewhere.
I really, really don't want to start any flame bait--I just want to ask an honest question without drawing any hate: What was so great about FF 9's story? Also, the gameplay was not so great to me, because you could not really control how your character evolved, you just earned your abilities, magic, summons by simply leveling up (something you would have done anyway). At least in FF 7 and 8, you had more control by combining usage of different Materia, or utilizing the junction system and drawing up different magics, creating weapons yourself instead of simply buying them, etc. Also it seemed like FF 7 and 8's story's were more engaging (dealing with topics like betrayal, love, colonization (in sepheroth's case), abandonment (Squall), friendship, etc). So as you guessed, i never quite understood FF 9's appeal as much as most people do. And that's okay, but Id like for people to actually tell me the REASON'S for why they think FF 9 was good (gameplay mechanic and story wise). But every time I ask this question on forums, people get pissed, yet can never give an answer. So please don't be pissed, I just wan't to know what it is that people saw in it, that I didn't.
I still stand by mine Breath of Fire 3, Secret of Mana, Illusion of Gaia, Phantasy Star 4 and Legend of Dragoon!
Pretty much all them, are on the list so far, or maybe in the future, Breath of Fire III is in this section of the list, and Legend of Dragoon is #95
