Sony letting fans vote for the cover star of Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale

Sony Computer Entertainment UK today revealed that they are letting fans vote on the cover star of Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale. The publisher is teaming up with retailer, Game, to bring a “high-gloss sleeves covering” pre-order bonus for the Playstation 3 and Playstation Vita crossover fighting game. Fans have to pick between ten characters, including two third-party fighters.

Yeah in the Ps1 era when someone said "sony" and "Playstation" the first thing to come to my mind was "Crash Bandicoot".

i love crash, but it doesn't make any sense, he was more of like their 1st mascot, but unlike mario (nintendo's mascot) naughty dog moved on and it would be bizarre to act like crash is sony's mascot when there aren't any games anymore, no, it needs to be something that has defined sony current gen, like nathan drake, or snake, or ratchet and clank, etc...

In all seriousness the Cole and Jak and Daxter covers make the most marketing sense.

As for the people suggesting certain characters, only a few are featured on the boxarts. You have to see the boxarts before commenting in this article.

Um, no, they're not. Mario is THE face of Nintendo. If Sackboy is the face of Sony, then the fact that he is, by nature, capable of putting on the faces of all the other iconic characters they have should show that HE isn't actually the face of Sony, after all.

... just in case you didn't get that: Since Sackboy is a versatile character capable of appearing as anybody else in the Sony stable, IF he's Sony's workhorse, then it's as an all-in-one representation of their entire leading cast, NOT as the de facto face, himself.

Oh, he's definitely trying to be the Sony mascot, and rightly so. Nintendo has Mario, Microsoft has Master Chief, Sony doesn't really have a mascot.

Sackboy gets his own Kart Racer, Smash Brothers type game and is known for his platform games in general. Now he gets handheld versions of all those games as well, seems pretty clear that Sony is pushing Sackboy to be their mascot. It does make sense to do this, as pretty much every type of gamer can identify with him.

Thing is though Sony have never had a mascot because they make new IPs every gen.

They could of carried on with Crash but they let Naughty Dog move on to create Jak and Daxter on the PS2 and then Uncharted for PS3 and I'm sure they will let Media Molecule move on from LBP and sackboy.

All of these characters could have been Sony mascots.
So it's hard to say which character represents Sony the best.

Here's an idea: Why not have them all? They could also do like Mass Effect 3 which had two completly different covers if you flipped them from the inside. It would probably be a little more expensive but rare covers might become collector's items 20 years from now. It would also attract more buyers when they see the variety of characters in the store shelves.

they should advertise a character that sells well. Put something like Nathan drake pitted against Kratos or something. I want this game to do good and sell well. But then again why not just have the whole roster show up on the front cover? You guys ever see the art galleries you get in Soulcalibur and how they always have that one picture with all the fighters in it from top to bottom? They should do that as their cover. Put some sort of storm in the background with lightning in the back and all the characters are just added in their looking pissed lol

From marketing and casual gamers stand of view, it would be best for Sony sales to have the cover with Kratos, as the God Of War is the most known PS franchise to wider audience.

They should show different chars on the cover fighting each other . And they should show a stage. Let's say Kratos is fighting Nariko and Sir Dan is attacked by Hades is the Hades stage. Something like that would be cool.
