Retro Review: Metal Gear Solid from The Game Fanatics

Metal Gear Solid is a difficult game to critique. It’s stiff controls and fixed camera angles definitely feel dated but, at the same time, feel just right. The long cutscenes pull me out of the action, but pull me into the game’s world. The difficulty can spike in an instant, and yet it’s part of why the game is so satisfying. Simply put, Metal Gear Solid is still one of the best games on the PlayStation, and one gamers should absolutely play. (Metal Gear Solid, Retro) 4.5/5

One of my all time favorites. It was way ahead of its time. Guess that's why it still holds up well today ;7

Although I didn't like MGS after this one, it still remains one of my all time favorite games. A true classic.

I'm in the exact same boat. This one was one of my favorite games ever, but I don't really like the rest of the series.

never thought id see the day someone else thought like me lol. solid is still one of my fav games of all time, tied in first with a few others. i beat the second one but found the story out of control and too unrealistic, solid had a much more believable story. then three had amazing everything but the controls were such a pain in the ass i couldnt ever finish it, got halfway through twice. then 4 hit and for some reason it could never keep my interest ( i do plan to try again someday though )

To you and Cpt: amazed others felt like me ! And amazed I wasn't slammed into oblivion for not liking the other MGS.

I agree the story got too "out there" for me. But this one will always be one of the finest examples of gameplay and story telling that I have ever seen
