Dead Space 3 aiming for “quad-A” with series evolution

Dead Space 3 executive producer Steve Papoutsis says Visceral is going above and beyond “triple-A” with the horror sequel. (Dead Space 3, PC, PS3, Steve Papoutsis, Xbox 360)

After what you've done to the game where it looks nothing like a Dead Space game but more of a Gears of War/Lost Planet clone...I highly doubt that.

Yea its EA again trying to cash in on the success of other publishers game types. The same happened to Burnout. If they wanted a quad A game then they should have just improved on wat was already a superb formula.

Dead Space 1 is a 10/10 game.

Compared to where DS3 is going, DS1 is indeed a 10/10 game.

I mean did they not learn from Capcom mistakes...least Capcom established the RE franchise for years and years before they ruined it and gave fans the middle finger.

I mean I know theres people who are obviously going to say "Give it a chance" but what is the point we've seen this happen before with a horror game, it was called Resident Evil 5, despite giving us the option for co-op the horrible character your with is still in the story and the levels are still designed around co-op.

lol only sony exclusives are quad A games...

well look at the bright side

if the game sale less than 2mil they will cancel the franchise..from the direction the game went ? its a good thing

the negative side tho is that the team of DS will probably die just like other companies EA had

I still think everyone is judging it waaay too early. Don't get me wrong, I don't want them to screw it up either because I love 1 & 2 but it's the same team behind it so I'm giving them the benefit of a doubt.

You're a reasonable human. Not many of those on the planet, much less on this site.

Take a look at this:

As you can see, they're leaving a lot of what makes Dead Space great intact. Visceral just doesn't want to become predictable and make another game where you "Walk around a space ship/station and shoot limbs". If Dead Space 3 took place entirely in another ship or station I think it would be pretty stale.

I'll remain optimistic until Visceral releases a game that doesn't live up to the previous Dead Space entries. DS3 could be that game, but for now I'm excited.

"make another game where you "Walk around a space ship/station and shoot limbs"

Sorry but who wouldn't like that.

Return to the Ishimura was the best level in Dead Space 2. Besides wouldn't it be better to make a Marker base like the inside of a space ship instead of having it so open and non scary.

It's not that hard to create and improve what we've experienced before instead of changing everything what made the game great.

Dead Space 12 aiming for AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA..... . with 62 player co-op
adorie  +   669d ago
Lol... Dead Space 3 = Quad-A Graphics: Ray Tracing
Multiplayer: 62 players?
Singleplayer: Campaign that takes 2 weeks of total play time to beat
Unlockables: Peng Skin, EA CEO skin, Tommy Gun, Boxing Gloves (finish blows explode the monsters to pieces or knock them back really far)

That's Quad A to me. :)

MEH, DS has been bastardized to nothing more than a bargain bin pick up. It's such a shame because after the 1st I thought it would be one of my favorite series for years to come.

"Dead Space 3 aiming for “quad-A” with series evolution"
Now that sh!t sounds hilarious, LMFAO.
Megaton  +   669d ago
Like all good things, EA swiftly destroyed this series.

Here's the translated version:

"We've noticed that when people tend to overhype their own games, they refer to them as triple-A. And I thought, 'How can we do better?' Not making better games, obviously, god no, just how we could do a better job of overhyping our games. And then it hit me. A fourth A. Boom. Pretty soon you'll be seeing people start calling their games Quad-A, and just remember that it started with me."
beerkeg  +   669d ago
Lol. Yeah I agree with that translation. I remember seeing Steve Papoutsis on stage ages ago when they were bringing DS1 out, and I quite liked his enthusiasm for the game. He seemed to genuinely love gaming.

But having seen him showing off DS3 in E3 and on one of the preview videos I saw, he just annoys the hell out of me. All he goes on about is 'freaking awesome' this and 'super cool' that.

Have a look at this video and skip to around the 13 min mark. It makes me cringe.

"...I quite liked his enthusiasm for the game."

"...he just annoys the hell out of me. All he goes on about is 'freaking awesome' this and 'super cool' that."

So you liked his enthusiasm for Dead Space, but you're annoyed that he's enthusiastic about Dead Space 3? Makes perfect sense.
beerkeg  +   669d ago
No, I didn't say that. It's the fact that it changed from what I perceived to be enthusiasm to outright hyperbole.

Does that make sense?
WeskerChildReborned  +   669d ago
Seriously a Quad A? I mean the games were good but their not that good. I think quad A would have to be a game that everybody likes and can't really deny it.
konnerbllb  +   669d ago
It's really a dumb way of marketing their game. Everyone knows that there are three tiers. AAA, mediocre, and sh%&.

It's like saying you're going for a 1000 score out of 10. Pretty dumb.

Hype me to the moon,
Raising hopes among the stars.
And when the product hits,
You'll hear the screams from Mars.....

The funniest part is when they call it 'horror'
