With Final Fantasy celebrating its 25th anniversary, the web has been stirring with discussions on the series and its future. A lot of gamers agree that something went wrong with the series somewhere within the double digits. Everything shifted suddenly from 2D to 3D. Shortly following that came voice acting, different battle systems, and a more simplistic world map. After reflecting on the series and its changes over the years, G.R. Bradley at Rant Gaming has comprised a list of what she thought were Final Fantasy’s greatest hits.
If FFVI is SOOOOO great, why do they never use it's images for anything? Because the fact of the matter is its not really that great, the Non-Conformist Conformists simply want to show that FFVII isn't as good as everyone thinks (Yet the fact they have to use it to ensnare hits proves that it is).
Cloud and friends > Terra and friends
Sephiroth >>>>> Kefka(No one cares he partially succeeded, he still ends up being defeated....permanently. Seph still lives!)
FFVII > FFVI
How can Sephiroth be a better villain? He loses every time. Doesn't matter that he keeps coming back: he KEEPS LOSING. Kefka actually WON. Hell, Ultimecia attained her objective, too; she got beaten after the fact.
I respect your opinion that you like VII the best, but it's not definitively the best FF, let alone JRPG, ever made.
Which, by the way, is why people bring it up so often: lovers of VII consider it the end-all, be-all of JRPGS and the FF franchise. Naturally, if you want to make a claim for another game, you have to take down the one that gets all the publicity first.
I get that this is all subjective opinion but VII has always been and may always be... the most acclaimed from the series. Why does every list try to steal that light from it? I can deal with the fact it may not be the fav of every gamer but just read this journalist's synopsis of it. " I know many might wonder why FFVII wasn't put as #1..." blah blah, this happens in every listing now. They always give the top spot to another obscure entry and then go into a huge elaboration why FFVII doesn't deserve it but it always seems like they are trying to prove it to themselves rather their reader base.
And FYI, Sephiroth also completed most of his main objective, which was to harm the planet enough where it would need to harvest many human spirits to survive. He did, as that was what the Giant Crater was and in the end many poeple died only to be saved at the last second. Almost everyone in original Midgar died. Sephiroth is just as successful as the rest of the FF Villains yet all the other villains are perma dead and he is not. He, unlike the rest, still has a chance to fully succeed, hence his moniker as "the nightmare".
As far as SE or any Japanese dev is concerned, FFVII is the BEST. It has sold over 10million which is more than any other RPG before it and any RPG of today struggles to reach that same goal.
