Konami Pulling Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeroes Trailer
Konami is asking websites to remove the Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeroes trailer revealed last weekend at the Penny Arcade Expo due to a licensing issue with a song used in the footage.
(Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes, PC, PS3, Xbox 360)
yeah this has happened before. The actual MGS theme was changed in MGS3 due to a similar sounding song that they found in the past.
That really sucks. But it's the world we live in :( Kojima is a LAST person on earth that deserves to be sued It's cool though, thanks to gametrailers, I got it in my PS3 hard drive.
Just so everyone knows - the reason there is a lawsuit is not because the original owners of the song wanted it, they would love the free publicity. Rolling Stones made a killing with it's song in Call of Duty Black Ops with spiked iTunes sales immediately after the game released.
The problem is lawyers. There are more lawyers in the US than all other countries in the world combined. Lawyers only make money if they're in court, and for corporate lawyers it means suing everyone in sight - the biggest reason the US is such a litigious society. Lawyers look to shit all over everything for their own gain, as per usual, the artists would more than likely love having their song features in an MGS trailer that's getting millions of views worldwide.
Why not just credit the song at the end of the trailer and be done with it? Because lawyers want money in court, that's why. Lawyers ruin more than people really know.
I think the best thing would be to credit the song at the end.

I actually know a story of a person that spilled a drink in a tile store to see if the tile absorbed liquids. After that, the cleaning lady went there and cleaned it. Few minutes later the person that spilled the drink, passed by it and slipped. She sued the store for not effectevely cleaned the floor and for not put a "slipp" sign next to it.
the problem isn't lawyers- I'm a lawyer that deals in ip law almost exclusively and I can tell you we don't act unless we're instructed to- blaming lawyers is like shooting the messenger. we just tell you what can be done.
If made a song, you'd have to pay me to use it in a video game. If you actually know the meaning of the song, then its even more insulting that he stole its usage.
That song is making Kojima more money for their company either way you look at it. So what youre saying is the artist should just let big operations make millions of their back? They should be paid whatever tiny amount they wanted.
Sorry Adbou23, you have a weird sense of fairness; siding with the multi million dollar company and tossing the broke artist to the street.
Yea, I'm sure there are reasonible causes for these cases..but a lot of times I'm left wondering "Why, just why!? Free marketing, and that's what I would want." I wouldn't tell them to pull the trailer If I were the song producer.
Then again I'm not them so I can't speak on behalf of every single person and case. -EDIT- Someone is saying because of lawyers. Whatever it is, it's always about money somewhere -_-; such a great song though. Maybe we need some new rules in this industry?
I guess he is supposed to. Well I guess it is not his fault but Konami/Konami US if they are involved. Legal issues is too hard to deal with, especially legal issues from abroad.
Im not trolling i just dont like the fact that MGS is going multi platform day 1 , and it will prob suffer cuz of it,simple as that , if you dont like it too bad
It's comforting to know there are people like you out there as me who DOWNLOAD trailers (the great ones) for keeps... I'm not into STREAMING content back and forth either :-) Having a downloaded file version saves up the time when you want to re-watch, re-watch, re-watch or show the content to a friend/family instead of having to hunt it on the web.
When GROUND ZEROES released on youtube, I downloaded the 1080p HD version.
Having previously used "Here's To You" i'd imagine that license is sound.
If this epic trailer for, imo, one of the most anticipated titles this gen, has to be pulled for Flight of the f**king Valkyries which was used about a million years ago, that's just plain nit picking -_-
At least Konami is asking. Respect a great and underrated game company like them. Respect Kojima. If there are no trailers it will only make the game more exciting when it comes out since we forget what it looks like and sounds, constant exposure of a game destroys the experience a little. Lets make it like back in 1997 first time I tried Tekken 3 wow O.o
I bet it would be fine to re-upload it again, but just silence the moment the song comes on. Any simple video editor can mute that portion. No need to eliminate the video. Heck, I'll do it myself and re-post it on youtube for everyone to enjoy again.
If you want to be really fancy silence the song but find a public domain recording of it and then re-edit it back in...that's assuming it is the Flight of the Valkyrie song that is the cause of pulling the video. :)
The only reason why this artist is bitchin about it is cuz they aren't making any money outta the trailer.I'd be proud if any of my music ended up in a game trailer, money or not.
These people should join Lars Ulrich in the merry ol' land of moneybags.
If you wanna make music for money, become a Canadian teeny bopper and sleep with Selena Gomez.
I don't mean to offend Justin Bieber fans, i know she does the best she can.
Well, the question isn't whether or not they put the proper track info for the song into the trailer (which they DID for Here's to You, and they didn't for Flight of The Valkyrie) but whether or not they received permission from the producers/publishers of the original album.
I doubt the artist did any complaining. Wagner is long dead and his music is public domain, but the recording might have been taken from an out-of-studio orchestra. However, the recording sounded old, and I'm guessing that might even have been in public domain by this point. There are also so many recordings of Die Valkure that it'd be nearly impossible to claim which orchestra recorded it.
I think that Konami dropped the ball on getting the licensing rights to "Here's To You," and the publisher jumped on that immediately. The original artists, in either case, had absolutely zero to do with this.
That really sucks. But it's the world we live in :(

That person won 9000$ in court! Only in America.
Right because the guy cures cancer.
FFS
It was changed in MGS4. MGS3 had the theme.

Fail logic is fail.
Kojima would probably license this song in the end since it could be something he wants in his game.
If it was that little tune coming from the helicopter, then I guess that could easily be changed.
How about GFYS instead?
I was making that comment because Kojima has touched a lot of lives with his work.
So because he HASN'T cured cancer, he deserves to be sued?
Why don't you actually say something intelligent?
@Batzi: You're right! My mistake lol
But its not like they are hurting for money...so they are being VERY cheap as a company.
muahaha!

Not enough "Change the world".
Not enough silent trolling.
Minus extra points for wearing fanboy panties.
New score: 3/10
It makes for a nice little collection , as long as you dont keep every crap out there .
Hell MGS ones are masterpieces , and you can get a glimpse of the japanese voices too , wich are quite good , if not into imports .
When GROUND ZEROES released on youtube, I downloaded the 1080p HD version.
I still remember the feeling from watching the FFXIII trailer.

I know it was in MGS4 , but maybe the license only apply for mgs4 so far .

Konami showed that this generation can still put out AAA games that look better than what we've already seen.
Rest forever here in our hearts
The last and final moment is yours
That agony is your triumph
