The Problem with E3

"Having had the privilege of attending the Electronic Entertainment Expo, as well as all three major press conferences held in conjunction with E3, for the first time this year, I think it’s my duty to inform you about just what it’s like walking through the hallowed halls of the Los Angeles Convention Center with the Future of Gaming all around you. It was, in a word, disillusioning." (Culture, E3, Industry)

Great Article and Might I add that you touched on just about every problem I had with E3 personally.

The 3 day format doesn't work and perhaps if they expanded to 4 days then everyone would be able to see everything on both sides of the convention.

The other issue is that Press and Fans are often fighting for spots in line just to see a trailer that was previously shown at conferences from earlier in the week. There are some exceptions when your able to have a brief gameplay session but still the lines are ridiculously long to begin with.

The 4 day format wouldn't solve EVERY problem with E3 but it would at least assure that media are able to have time to make appointments and actually see everything that the show has to offer without rushing.

An extra day would be really nice, indeed. The 3-day format makes very little sense except for the fact that the industry higher-ups are probably all done their business after the 3 days. -_-

I was going to avoid mentioning the industry higher ups but you are ABSOLUTELY right lol.

Going to the event itself very much feels like your a guest and that becomes very apparent quickly once you see that IGN and Gamespot have booths setup well in advance of the show.

When you add in the fact that the show doesn't "officially" open until later in the morning then you realize it's only that way because the big wigs have gone ahead and already got a majority of the coverage they needed beforehand.

I dont wanna say it but it feels very much like all the other press sites are getting hand me downs and even if you think your website is the best your immediately brought down to reality rather quickly.

All those gripes aside, I still enjoy the E3 experience and hopefully they can improve or at least try to. The 4 day format would be a good start.
