The Walking Dead – a turnaround for Telltale

They’re not completely gone but by and large, they’ve been reduced to virtual frozen mammoths, extracted from the wastes whenever we want a nostalgic trip to the rose-tinted past or to resurrect a special edition re-release. The few excellent adventure games that are released today – Wadjet Eye’s excellent catalogue and Ben There, Dan That are my personal favourites – are still working on a template that, to the general public, became awfully stale a long time ago.

Telltale Games have been trying to reverse that trend, but until the Walking Dead, they’d been doing a pretty damn poor job. Their re-hashes of memorable licenses as episodic adventures have ranged from the decent to plain sad, but they’ve rarely been memorable or innovative. To me, the Walking Dead has changed all that. I really can't believe how much I love The Walking Dead game, if Telltale keep up the excellent work it is, for me at least, a GOTY contender.
