Yes it's true, Ghost Recon used to be long distance outdoor assaults compared to RS' breaching, but it was not sexy enough so they shortened distances and made it more in your face.
Splinter Cell feels a lot like Rainbow Six too now.
Which is funny since the first build of SCC might have been canned for looking too much like another game: Assassin's Creed.
But now we have WatchDogs, which is totally SC+AC.
AC had some PoP in its DNA too, but that's a different story since it really added a lot, like the non linear climbing, the historical elements and the sandbox.
Yeah Assassins Creed was built from a new engine that was being made for PoP but they decided to run with the new IP because they thought it suited it more and would better for the new generation.
EA had a similar problem, not sure if it still does. I swear Skate, Burnout, NFS, SSX, and like several of their other games where just the same thing dressed up a different way.
Well Ghost Recon and Splinter Cell are bastardizations of what they used to be. Watchdogs looks awesome and I honestly love the parkour aspect of games. And the only thing that AC3 has now that wasn't in the original was a cover system, and that's not a cover system like the ones in Ghost Recon or Splinter Cell. It's basically to look around corners.
Yes that's the ONLY thing. Because this doesn't have hunting in grass, climbing and jumping through threes, hanging people on nooses or navy ship battles. Nope, this is the same as the other AC games, except for that cover system.
right now i kind of see what this guy is saying when he says ubisofts games are blurring into one, but its only speculetion, to me it seems ubisoft wants to make everything an openworld ultra realistic game and i say this based off of AC, Watch Dogs, the mysterious new prince of persia reboot that looks more like its egyptian, and the latest beyond good and evil 2 screens, i dont want that to happen to PoP and BGaE, because those are my favorite Ubisoft series, and the mythical/fantasy aspect is what makes those games, and giving them that more realistic, dark and gritty approach kind of ruins them in a way.
