Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeroes: No Room For David Hayter?
GP writer Jared discusses why he believes Metal Gear Solid series regular David Hayter could be absent from the voice cast for Ground Zeroes and instead replaced with someone else.
(Culture, Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes, PS3, Xbox 360)
The game will most likely have time jumps, as indicated by the first screenshot released which had a younger Snake. So David Hayter will most likely still be in the game at some capacity if he won't voice the old Big Boss.
This might sound obvious, but just wait and see if Akio Ohtsuka voices Snake in the Japanese version. , Since Akio has done every MGS game since MGS, it would make sense that if Akio's doing the Japanese Snake, David will be doing the English Snake.
EDIT: I see Heavenly King said this already below.
Filming a movie only takes maybe 3 months at most, if its a small drama and not a big blockbuster movie then it will be even less....
Don't see why he would toss out a solid relationship, potential secured jobs, and walk away from his fanbase in a MAJOR release to go risk it with some movie.
The movie is called 'Wolves' and he is writing and directing it. It's a big production. When it comes to movies, directors spend the most time on the movie. Actors for instance just act and move on to other projects. But directors have to be there for every scene, putting/cutting the movie together, post production stuff everything.
This is why I am not sure if he'll be able to. I know e would want to do it, but not sure if he's able to.
Hopefully he'll do it though. I got used to his voice as Snake.
Well, that is extremely logical, but....how can David be Solid, like, unless a big time leap happens....even if SOLID Snake was around, he'd be a child or a baby at least(Unless time skip). Like, I'm not going to think that David Hayter will be the voice of a YOUNG/Child Solid Snake, rofl. Young-Solid Snake with a Gruff voice already while in the crib.
There was a rumor a while ago about a Young Solid Snake as a recruit in FOX in south africa so maybe there might be a time leap like in MGS2 but a bigger one.
The fact it's getting harder and harder for him to do the voice of Snake is a sign that he's not going to be able to do this forever and, honestly, it might not be a bad idea if he skips this game, if only to not be involved in full production doing the voice, and maybe let Richard Doyle take over as the voice actor for Big Boss since, let's be serious here, they're two different characters and if Hayter is going to try and force the voice again, we may not have a voice actor for Solid Snake at all.
Not really that "different" he is a clone of the man after all...
There is NO doubt at all that David will be voicing Big Boss in this game. To be honest, the only way I could see Doyle voicing Big Boss again is if the original MG1 and 2 were ever remade
I would not mind Doyle picking up the role with a younger feel to it, not as obvious as MGS4 Big Boss but with some similarity to MGS3 at least. Honestly would prefer Hayter though, not sure why you think it's hard for him to do the voice, Hayters MGS1 voice was so tame and natural it wouldn't be difficult.
Yeah, that's my impression as well, but it could change when localizing for whatever reason. David Hayter loves playing the role, but that doesn't mean he'll definitely be able to.
i want some more info on the film.. I know the game is going to be awesome! im not sure though, is it being released for 360/ps3 & nx gen consoles? or just current? i might want to wait til i have a ps4 to play this.. It may be released by the time this game comes around
But the fox engine he built is for nx gen as well isnt it? i mean high end PCs right now is prolly a good idea of what next gen consoles wll look like graphically..
Probably misunderstood you, but it seems like you are saying that this game isn't on the fox engine. The furthest right logo at the end of the trailer shows that it is for fox engine.
If you are saying that it is not for the PC. Then we can all agree that it has not been offically confirmed yet.
As others have said, since the Japanese voice actor for Snake reprises his role in Ground Zeroes there is no reason to believe that David Hayter won't also return.
Also consider that this game takes place only a year or two after Peace Walker. That kid in the cage is obviously Chico and he doesn't look much older than he did in PW. Why Big Boss is so insanely old looking is a mystery but I don't think this game takes place at a time when the young Snake would be around.
David Hayter will be Big Boss in this game. I guarantee it.
Dude look at Chico from Peace walker and look at him in this trailer, he's barely aged at all. I don't know why Snake aged so much but it's clear to me judging by Chico that this game doesn't take place that long after Peace walker. I can't tell you why Snake got so old but I suspect we'll find out. Knowing Kojima I wouldn't be surprised if this guy is a clone too lol
Which is why Kojima is trolling again. The promo poster for MGS:GZ shows a younger Big Boss, not this old one in the demo. So either that's not chico, or BB isn't going to be that old in the actual game. Chico hasn't aged much but BB is like 60? Does not compute.
Big Boss isn't really THAT old in the trailer. It's just more detailed than what we're used to seeing. Come on, the leap from Peace Walker a PSP game to what we're seeing in Ground Zeroes.
I remember seeing/reading/hearing something about Solidus being the "perfect clone" of big boss, and that solid was the lesser version of bb compared to liquid and Solidus...
And remember Eva gave birth to both liquid and solid snake, which means SOLIDUS IS THE YOUNG SNAKE IN THE PICTURE!!!
And I'd my memory is serving me correct, then one of the three clones (Solidus being the oldest) had trained and did missions with Big Boss...
theory: the game takes place at different junctures in the mgs timeline, e.g. mgs2 and mgs3. some of it might be directly after mgs:pw, some of it might be during the late 70's up to the 90's (i.e. metal gear era). that could explain why big boss looks so old.
Young snake, maybe the voice acting will be done by a kid since he's still probably not an adult ... MGS1 takes place on 2005 so snake was around 33 year old. I think David is still the voice actor, after all Akio Otsuka is doing the voice of Big Boss in MGS: GZ.
one thing i wish they would put in mgs games: the ability to play the game in japanese with english subtitles. every time they show the announce trailers, the voice actors always seem so much more bad-ass. they sound like they have more gravitas. especially a character like raiden.
This Metal Gear Solid is the first of the next step in the series, They perfected the Game play for the retro MGS games with MGS4.. In order to improve they needed to expand, The first major MGS game for new systems, the first for a new engine (Fox Engine).
Richard Doyle voiced Big Boss in MGS4, For an old man who has aged naturally unlike Solid Snake the voice for Big Boss in MGS4 was perfect, Kinda like when you saw & heard Big Boss for the first time in MGS4 Old Snake all of a sudden seemed much younger compared too Big Boss.
The voice of Snake either Naked or Solid, Is David Hayter. But this older Snake requires something to keep that (I've aged a bit..) concept going & using the voice actor from MGS4 is perfect, Only hope in future David gets to return one way or another.. after all, He IS Solid Snake, He IS Naked Snake.
But this Character isn't Snake, He's Big Boss! In Kojima I have all my trust, You've never let me down, Not Once. I'll back Kojima up until he's retired.. It's the least I can do for 14 years of Entertainment at it's utter Greatest. Peace!
-Wait a minute if this is set just after Peace Walker say... 1979 at the latest, Big Boss is NOT that much older, sure he's graying, and a little more wrinkled, (smoking can do that to a man) and kinda starting to look like Macho Man Randy Savage. Let's face it, Big Boss is not as handsome as he was in '64! :D
But that doesn't mean he has to sound all withered like he's about to die, as he did in MGS4. Also, this was the Japanese voice that they showed in Japan and at PAX, it doesn't mean there not considering David Hayter for the English version, when there ready. Just give them time! :D
christian bale can do the voice hes got it down from batman lol jk. But seriously its not to difficult u just gotta have a deep voice i guess. I can do a pretty good snake voice and a duke nukem voice to no joke.
As much as I love David Hayter as Snake, I really don't like him doing the older Snake voices. He's good at doing the young Snakes but you can tell that he struggles with the older Snake voices.
I didn't like how he sounded in Peace Walker, he sounded sickly, a bit too much like Old Snake. Old Snake was supposed to sound sickly so it fit with him but Snake in PW, not so much.
Richard Doyle was great as Big Boss, but one thing that I questioned, was to why he sounded British? Maybe he hung out with Major Zero for too long? Lol.
Doyle was good in MGS4, but that was only needed to separate the voices....be kinda stupid to have Hayter talking to himself....
I agree, its also suspicious that snake has a fox tag in the trailer, but in the first released photo he has a Militaires Sans Frontières tag.
I guess MGS experts will know the timeline behind all these tags.
EDIT: I see Heavenly King said this already below.
The fact that the japanese voice actor of Snake has returned pretty much confirms David Hayter reprising his role.
I am not sure if he has the time in his schedule to do Snake's voice anymore. Hopefully he'll have the time though.
Don't see why he would toss out a solid relationship, potential secured jobs, and walk away from his fanbase in a MAJOR release to go risk it with some movie.
This is why I am not sure if he'll be able to. I know e would want to do it, but not sure if he's able to.

disagree all u want just check what kojima and konami said at pax..just google it.
there isnt any decision yet

Yeah, Fuck off asshole.
Jeez, I guess we see why he only has two bubbles...
