FF13-3 is just a bad idea. I would love to be in the meeting room when SE execs discuss what games to develop and actually hear the justifications for bad decisions like this.

Ranma14252d ago (Edited 4252d ago )

Am curious as to why they didnt call it FF13-3. Damage control perhaps?

Or maybe they saw there was a 66% decline in sales from FF13 to 13-2 and thought same would happen again for 13-3?

Am thinking the reason Wada keeps having FF13 sequels made is because a fortune teller told him 13 is a lucky number (its possible, seeing as he moved SE's headquarters based on advice from a fortune teller named Pau)

DragonKnight4252d ago

Either that or they plan on releasing a proper FF13-3 afterwards. If they do, I hope they hear the collective global facepalm that will result.

Godmars2904252d ago (Edited 4252d ago )

Thing is, in all honesty, it was Versus that was the mistake. Announced too early and now just languishing more so than FF13 in general.

@Irishguy95: It was "Held off" because Square overestimated their understanding and the requirements of HD tech. XIII itself says as much no mater how people want to argue that story and game design choices made to the game were all planned.

Irishguy954252d ago

Yeah this is true, although...I'd say...revealing Versus was the first mistake...holding it off for so long is a series of extended mistakes

PshycoNinja4252d ago

At the 25th Anniversary the Product Manager said "Fans think Lightning has become the face of Square Enix. She has become an iconic character."

Yeah I would say they are out of touch with their fans.

Irishguy954252d ago

It's not even funny, I mean...how is it even possible that they believe that? Where do they get their info?

Capt-FuzzyPants4252d ago

Yeah I don't really know how the Japanese fan base feels about Lightning. I think she's alright, but definitely not the face of SE. When I think SE I think Sora, Chrono, Cloud, Tidus, and a lot of other great characters. I like FF13, but I do believe they could do better, but I also think they don't deserve all the hate they get.

NBT914252d ago (Edited 4252d ago )

Yeah I mean SE CAN make good games. The Kingdom Hearts series has been consistently good, despite people moaning about the third one still not being announced. And TWEWY was pretty well received. While I do think the company makes some... Questionable decisions, to say the least. They DO make good games.
And as gamers, isnt that what matters to us?

DragonKnight4252d ago

I actually disagree with that Product Manager. Until there is a game that surpasses it, both in sales and reception, FFVII's Cloud is the mascot of SE. Has been for a long time, will be for a long time. SE may try to make Lightning the new mascot, but it won't work.

iWishTifaWasReal4252d ago (Edited 4252d ago )

i always thought Chocobo was the mascot of Square Enix.

DragonKnight4252d ago

You'd think so, but no. It's definitely Cloud. Whenever FF as a franchise is talked about, Cloud's picture is the draw. Whenever people post lists of the top 10 FF's or even sometimes RPGs in general, Cloud is somewhere there. When's the last time you saw a chocobo used for anything other than some cutesy type ad?

Yuji Naka guilty of insider trading breaks silence to accuse Square Enix producer of lies

Yuji Naka was fined $1.2 million and given a suspended jail sentence for the crime.

Profchaos13d ago (Edited 13d ago )

I find his comments around how Balan turned out to be very insightful as to why the game is trash. He basically apologises for its existence

solideagle12d ago

can you please give some of us who don't know anything about this, a summary of what happened?

Chocoburger12d ago

Balan was knowingly rushed out by S-E, it had an extremely short dev cycle and was fairly low budget.
Naka was the game's director until near the end when he was fired or perhaps he quit, I forgot.

carrotcakeag12d ago

@Chocoburger Yeah they did fire and replace him which caused him to unload a bunch of rants about the company. The project only existed because of Naka in the first place, he convinced Square to give him one shot at making a platformer. They gave him an opportunity but pulled the rug out before he was done for reasons not explained.

Please o please don't turn dragon quest into final fantasy square enix we dont wont that. Dragon quest works well just as it I. Plus you'll piss off Japanese fans to.

jznrpg16d ago

Hopefully they don’t. From this it doesn’t sound like that is the case and development is just taking too long.
