Five Women Who Kick Ass In Video Games -- Kill Bill Was Just The Beginning

G4tv writes: Forget princesses and cutesy romances. There's a wide world of female role models out there who behave like real-world women actually might in the situations they find themselves in – they don't cry for help while trapped at the top of an ivory tower or prance around in their skivvies while doing absolutely nothing to assist those around them. They simply get things done, no matter how high the stakes are.

In a world where the female characters are usually treated as simple counterparts for their male brethren, it's hard to find great examples that set a trend for women who accomplish great things. But after scouring the annals of gaming history we've come up with some of the best female role models of the medium – and if you've got any better ideas, as always feel free to let us know. (Final Fantasy XIII, Heavenly Sword, PC, PS3, Resident Evil, Wii, Xbox 360)

Good to see Alyx as the first bad ass women character. I personally would've included Kat from GR :)

Just played through Heavenly Sword again. Fantastic story and a few of the characters are amazing...particularly King Bohan, Flying Fox (reminds me of a Kojima villain) and of course, Nariko and Kai. Playing it kinda makes you wish the team that created it were not a bunch of assholes..

Anyway, the Nariko character is probably one of the most badass women in all of gaming. Even prior to her wielding the Heavenly Sword, she's plowing through waves of bad guys with a rusty sword and cannon balls (probably the best use of Sixaxis motion?).

On top of fighting a war, she's also in conflict with her own clan (a clan mostly consisting of homosexual males..) that hate her because she was born...and grew up to be, basically an even hotter version of Wonder Woman with long red hair that kicks ass for the good of the entire clan of women haters. Yeah...a real abomination, that one... My favorite scenes are with her and one of the not so good characters in the game, Whiptail (Think Reta Repulsa from old school Power Rangers with a dead fish on her head...). Not so much the actual fighting which was kinda mediocre, but the banter between the two characters.

Kinda bummed they killed her off but hell, Kratos has died 3 times and kicked hell's ass on each occasion. Nariko is badass enough to beat death as well.

You know Ninja Theory could have made a sequel but they wanted to focus making multiplatform games :(

You made me want to buy the game off Amazon.

Still waiting to see respect for Hana from Fear Effect (which I loved the way she walked with two beretta like she is going shopping.) and Konoko from Oni who's hand to hand skills really don't need introduction....

she'd probably get more recognition if she was in a better game.
