Pixels or Death's Patrick Lindsey talks about the recent announcement of the Metal Gear Solid movie, and why it's not as great an idea as everyone wants to believe:
"While the MGS series certainly has some cinematic aspects, it is still very much a game; just explaining the nuances of the plot alone has taken four AAA titles, each running around 12 hours of playtime. And that’s without any of the characterization or development of setting that you get naturally just through the act of playing."

It may not be based around MGS anyway, it might be based in Zanzibar Land with Big Boss and Solid Snake. If they do go through with it, my top choice to play Snake is Josh Holloway, though his rugged looks would fit to play Naked Snake more.
I really wished they wouldn't make a movie and just leave it alone.. I had high hopes for Max Payne and that film was terrible, and so are those RE movies.
Anyway....I don't think it's a bad idea.
Yes, game adaptations of movies and movie adaptations of games are horrible. But that's only because they choose crappy direction! It's all a hunt for money. Uwe Boll is in charge of half of them anyway! That RIGHT THERE proves me right.
In order to make a successful gaming movie you need a 2 in 1 deal. You need someone who can direct, that is ALSO a very big fan of the game.
In this case, MGS being Kojima's flagship saga, his "baby" if you will...this isn't a hunt for money. This is more of a fan service. I believe he would not allow this movie to be bad...ESPECIALLY judging by the amount of cancellations this movie has ALREADY seen. Not to mention the fact that I bet he will be HEAVILY involved. Fans wouldn't let him make someone else in charge anyway. Kojima does what the fans want, because the fans adore him.
I bet this movie will work. I despise these gaming movies, trust me. The Resident Evil movie was OK, and that is a stretch IMO. RE1 was good, but after that, they got crappier and crappier, but look at the company. CAPCOM. Day 1 DLC and all that already tells you guys they're money hungry. Trying to get that "COD Crowd". Getting Paul WS Anderson was mistake number 1 right there. He's made the best of B-rated movies.
I don't think that Kojima would let the MGS name try to sell a crappy product like a movie. Maybe a keychain, or Iphone case or something. I bet he will even attract people and generate fans with the movie!
I think they want Christopher Nolan to direct the film.
