New Dead Island: Riptide Details – Plot, Defence Missions & New Character

Deep Silver today revealed the first details about the next instalment in the Dead Island franchise, coming to stores in 2013. Having survived the ordeals of the zombie infestation on the once beautiful island resort of Banoi, our group of survivors thought they had finally found a safe place to escape from this terrifying nightmare. I enjoyed the first one. Obviously it had it's healthy share of flaws but playing it with friends was a blast. This new title will definitely be played at my mansion.

Can we actually get good characters this time or at least make up our own? There's no dialogue anyway and the group from Dead Island is the most boring cast of cliches in the world.

Game was indeed fun but that story is in desperate need of help.

Lmao I played through the game as that guy. I love the, for lack of a better term, curb stomp move he had.

Anyway, when the credits came around I was really embarrassed. As if I was somehow to blame for that God-awful song.

Edit: Some context.

When my roommate and I played Lara Croft and The Guardian of Light, I played as the guardian and he called me Took-took(which isn't his actual name) for about a week. As a matter if fact he still occasionally refers to me as such.

Long story short, he blamed me for the song my fictional character "sang" at the end of Dead Island.

yeah i agree, its just like Borderlands. great game with obvious flaws but it was fun no matter what especially co-op. The sequel will hopefully improve the series just like Borderlands 2 seems to be doing

If its in a jungle where you just shoot at half naked tribals, ima pass. I just want to be in a modern city, shit add a forest at best, with a zoo and a subway, and water. Screw techland so yeah im not supporting them.

Lord_Sloth, Tech land has massive social issues, so even if they made a new character, he will most likely be ass.

I played the 1st game, that's a whitewashed version of Purna who's charcoal black. She was the only character that wasn't hit with a stereotype until now. Techland still has social issues.

From everything I've read it's gonna be more of the same with a couple tweaks, although the images shown have shown alot more firearms so maybe they're gonna lay off on the melee a little this time round. My biggest disappointment is that the characters are the same, such a crap cast, I'd rather make my own ala fallout 3 stylee and build an attachment to them rather than just be a bland asshole. Also I hope they make it more about survival, dying never felt like it had any consequences last time due to the multiplayer style respawning so I'm hoping they make this system better. That and fortifying safe houses. I can dream...

If the new character is a male he's probably going to be an arrogant idiot (like the two current ones). Thanks Dead Island for letting 90% of your demographic down with the last game (except the underage children who probably think that rappers and NFL star jerks are the epitome of cool - don't worry, their Mums will provide plenty of sales).

I wold love to make my own character and pick from skills. If I can do that, I am there. Liked the first one, but disliked the characters.
