Gamespot Preview | Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes Shows Off Fox Engine Shine

Jonathan Toyad writes: The recent Metal Gear 25th Anniversary event at the Tokyo Midtown building did not only chronicle the history of the series in dramatic fashion and showed off new bits of Metal Gear Rising, but also introduced the next installment of the Metal Gear Solid series, complete with new workings of the new Fox Engine done up by Kojima Productions. While we can't actually show you the footage of Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes that was shown since we were told not to do direct filming, at least we can tell you about what we saw during the 20 minute demo.

He's listing Naked, Old and Solid.... but the snake in Ground Zeroes is wearing an eye-patch... so It must be big boss

Not necessarily. Solidus was an exact clone (right down to Big Bosses actual age (not a baby clone)). Thus he also needed an eyepatch due to Big Bosses missing eye. It is possible that it's Solidus too. The vague title of "Snake" without the moniker's "Naked", "Solid", "Liquid" etc makes it all an open option (except it clearly isnt Solid or Liquid, due to the eye patch). But Solidus is entirely possible (Especially when it comes to Kojima's shocking story twists).

Your way off. Go replay MGS2. Soldius didnt wear an eyepatch until, he got his face severly burned when the jet crashed into Big Shell. Soldius was born just like Liquid and Solid. Eva in MGS4 even says a test tube clone is impossible. you need a womans womb for the eggs to grow. Its not Soldius, period. Its the legendary Big Boss.

Well, it's obvious it is Big Boss. He's using the Peace Walker uniform (one of them) has an Eyepatch and also has the Military Sans Frontiere shoulder guard.

Ground Zeroes could be referring to Major Zero's plan to clone and/or preserve Big Boss, and the shadows...well: Solid and Liquid.

Actually the snake in the picture above is wearing Echelon's Multi-Vision Goggles... so it must be Sam Fisher

Yeah true, I just thought it was a good send off to solid snake and Big Boss. I still want more MGS but I dunno, feel as though it should end on a high instead of Hideo Kojima getting tired of making the games and the chance the series might lose its magic.

I'd still like to see proper remakes of the first two Snake games. But your right, continuing Solid's storyline after MGS4 would be stretching it.

Why is everyone saying he looks too much like Sam Fisher? MGS was the first and original stealth action game and you could clearly see the Thermal/NV goggles on Snake in MGS1's menu, so what's the big deal now? :P

For me personally it somewhat remindes of Sam Fisher, I don't exactly know why. I am not comapring which game was first, but just the picture, maybe the suite, maybe the colors...I don't know. Just seems fishy, like Sams Fishy : D

Pythonseika you can say what ever you want but the art looks too similar as Sam Fisher, is not about if it is or not stealth...... it is about how the carácter looks.
When you see the image you see more Fisher than solid snake.

I remember the same said about conviction and MGS4, look how that turned out. Maybee your preferences will bias you toward SC but if scoring/sales/user reviews are anything to go by SC has seen better days and will need some serious work to overcome its lifelong nemesis.

No sir, Splinter Cell is a great game but MGS is just more than a game.

back in the day you might be right about that, but now mg has fallen and it can't get up. splinter cell is constantly evolving into the dominant between the two games as we know it. like it or love it, but it is what it is.

When did it become dominant, when it ditched the stealth? When it dropped Ironside? When they revived a character that set the premise of the previous title? When they dropped the Clancyesque information warfare theme? When they changed the tempo to an action game?. Most old school fans would argue that what you name evolution is actualy degeneration.

So even if MGS has seen better days, it is still miles ahead of where splinter cell is currently at precisely because of the so called evolution.
