The season pass isnt the same thing as an online pass, gears 3 had one too. Basically you'll be paying upfront $30 for all borderlands 2 dlc, whereas you'd be paying $35 or $40 total if you bought all dlc separately. It's actually a good deal if you know you'll be into the game hardcore.
@Revolver.... ... pretty sure Borderlands 2 isn't going anywhere, and will still be available 1 year from now, most likely a GOTY-edition for 20-30 bucks.
I might get it then. Or perhaps I will have lost interest by then. I don't know yet.
I do know I'm not taking part in the current DLC-milking scam by buying these games at full-price.
I'm a very patient 'stingy' guy, and there are lots more games to pick up from the bargain-bin until Borderlands 2 hits it...
Hell, I just bought Deus Ex 3 including all DLC from PSN last week, for just 10 euro.
"... pretty sure Borderlands 2 isn't going anywhere, and will still be available 1 year from now, most likely a GOTY-edition for 20-30 bucks."
Bravo! I'll be doing the same with GTAV, AC3, Far Cry 3, and Sleeping Dogs. Look at how quickly we got Arkham City's GOTY edition. By buying games at launch price and supporting paid DLC afterwards, we as gamers are allowing a nasty trend to occur.
Yes paying a total of $90 now sucks but that is the price I am willing to pay to play the earliest I can. Great I could save $30-60 to play the game in a year but I have already waited 3 years for this game I'm not about to wait another second more. And having you pay for DLC isn't greedy, they arn't forcing you to buy it its option for the gamer and the fact they are willing to give a season pass is showing that they want to give the consumer a deal.
Borderlands had some of the best dlc I've ever experienced in gaming, so your not getting ripped off if your already planning on getting em all. Your just paying upfront and at a discount. Damn them for giving you a deal. Sure if u want to wait a year until the game and dlc is cheaper that's ur call. You must not be that much of a fan of it anyway.
It seems a bit steep when you think of it as $90, but I agree with the other posters on here. The first Borderlands had some amazing DLC that really added to the life of this game. Personally, I'll take my chances buying them individually though, on the off chance that one of the expansions isn't worth it. Also, I don't know how much time I'll be able to put in. I mentioned before, last time I played Borderlands - no kids. This time, two kids. My gaming time isn't what it used to be.
I agree Yi-Long. Well said bubble for you. Same crap as with Darksiders 2...a single player adventure game with a season of planned DLC? Seems like BS to me.
Considering the dlc's from the first were great, 5-10 hour mini campaigns for $15 a pop, this is a deal. If you're a fan that is. If you can wait a year for the GOTY than good for you, then you can stop complaining now.
While it does seem like they are milking games with extra content. Int was confirms on this very site that after the game went gold they started making the mecromancer character. They haven't even started making the extra content yet. So your saying there is something wrong with making more content for a game so it will make you want to continue playing it? Would you rather live back in the ps2 age where what you got is what you got? They do that season pass to give kpeople an opportunity to save money on the dlc they are going to buy. How does a season pass come off as a negative addition to the among world? I with there was a season pass with the first one. Would you rather have them release the content for free after the game is released? So the company can go under because they are supporting a game for free and have no resources dedicated to something else?
If you've played Borderlands 1 you'd know that Gearbox DLC is phenomenal. The season pass is an excellent business model as well as an excellent deal for the consumer in the right hands. If anyone can do the Season Pass right, it'll be Gearbox.
Yea, these season passes are nothing more than a slap in the face to fans. I agree that they need to make money for their work, but don't preemptive prepare for dlc before we have even been able to pay for the game. All of your focus should be on the game at that point...
On a lighter note, I just got this game for $30!!! If you buy a gtx660 right now, a voucher for borderlands 2 comes with it. Somebody just sold it to me for that ubber low price :D
It's funny too because the money they(devs/pubs) force me to spend on dlc I deduct from the $60 meaning I wait until the game is at least half off before I even think about buying it.
After a while you forget about those games and move on. After years of spending hundrends of dollars a year I haven't spent a dime this year.
Guys this is optional, its for fans that bought all the previous DLC and plan to buy all DLC for the 2nd game too and want to save some cash. the first Borderlands was good and so was its DLC so they have proven they can deliver.
Depends really, some season passes include all DLC (LA Noire, COD) whilst others don't (Saints Row 3, Uncharted 3, Darksiders 2 etc), not all season passes are worth it :)
More power to those of you who are waiting for the GoTY edition. Personally, I LOVE Borderlands 1, and have pre-ordered the Ultimate Loot Chest edition.
I couldn't imagine waiting any longer to play what is in all likelihood going to be one of the best (if not the best) games of 2012, and possibly, the best game of this console generation (b1 is my favorite game this gen so far).
As for the season pass, well I think I'll bite. Every DLC Borderlands 1 had was at the very least good. Mad Moxxis underdome being the weakest, but still being fun and useful.
I don't think people should flip out over this though. I don't remember people getting all upset when Uncharted 3 announced a season pass. Just don't buy the season pass. Either just buy the game and wait to decide which DLCs you want, or wait and deprive yourself from an amazing game for a year and a half (or two, depending on how long it takes all the dlc to come out) until a game of the year edition comes.
This season pass is for those of us who have complete faith in Gearboxs ability to produce quality Borderlands 2 dlc. They haven't messed up once yet, I don't see them messing up this time. If they do, then oh well, lesson learned, a few bucks wasted, it wont be the end of the world.
You guys seriously think the "4 pieces DLC" will be the last of the DLC? I will LOL at ALL OF YOU who will buy the extra characters/cars/costumes/bulls hit/big dlcs.
The biggest problem I have with this season stuff is that they get your (our) money before we see the product and that is a lot of trust. We're paying for something that yes, may be good in the first or second DLC pack, but who knows how crappy it could get, or could start out as.
The only saving grace is that if you really, really love the game and know you're gonna buy the DLC packs anyway then you typically save a bit by buying a pass ala BF3 Premium. But, its still a big gamble on hoping the content doesn't absolutely suck and they already have your money.
"The biggest problem I have with this season stuff is that they get your (our) money before we see the product and that is a lot of trust."
What product isnt that way these days? You go Mcdonalds and you pay before you receive, buy a new PC and you pay before you get to open it and put it together. I really cant think of any product that you know 100% what you are getting before you pay for it. Even if you think you know, it could be broken and needed to be taken back.
I can get a refund if my McDonalds food sucks. I can get a refund if I buy a broken product. If my DLC is terrible or broken I may have to wait months for an update, if get one at all, or just get a general PR response about it not being for everyone.
This is EXACTLY! why I don't go for season passes.
I ALSO won't put down more money for something I cannot justify at that moment in time. I would also rather pick and choose my DLC over time and not have to put down money needlessly for something I don't have yet (as stated about the justification of cost).
You never know what it is they'll release whether it be content or cosmetics or even both. I agree Gearbox (Borderlands devs) have made some top quality DLC but some people didn't like Mad Moxxi's Underdome. I certainly didn't care for it, but that is of course my personal opinion. That right there could be purchased later on or be left out entirely.
Got burned on the Gears 3 season pass and even though I bought all the DLC for Borderlands I will not be doing a season pass ever again.
I absolutely DO NOT like the idea that they have my money up front and can deliver weak DLC later on, it's like buying those mystery prize bags, you never know what you are going to get.
Is the Mechromancer part of the Season Pass? Because I'm getting it for free through my preorder and having to pay for it via the Season Pass seems like a double dip.
That is my only concern as well. I'll wait on purchasing the Season Pass (since I doubt they'll release anything before Mechromancer) till they clear up some things.
I don't understand how people can be upset about this. It's borderlands, they put out quality dlc. Gearbox along with Rockstar set the bar when it comes to quality dlc with enough value to justify the cost.
I am getting the Ultimate Loot Chest Edition and the Limited Edition Strategy guide. I can handle a season pass too if it gets me all future DLC for the game. You usually end up saving around $10 by getting a season pass over buying them individually anyway.
I seriously don't like the direction this gen is going with dlc. I won't ever buy a game that has 'day 1 dlc' on the first day, i'll just wait for a goty edition, if they don't have that then oh well.
The game is printed and ready to ship months before the game is available on store shelves. During that time, the developer is working on MORE content for the game. It makes sense that there would be more content for it the day it releases...
Starhawk DLC is free, btw. Maybe you should try it...
And how would I know they didn't just cut it from the full game so they could just sell it back to us later? I don't wanna take that risk. Why couldn't they just wait till they finished making that dlc and include it in the disc? This is why I don't like this gen, if this trend occurs games will continue to get shorter or will end up having 0 extra content (things like side missions, versus mode, etc) and will become paid add-ons. Though free DLC is another thing, I'm sure nobody minds that, but then again it's a rare thing to see.
I'll get the game but will skip the DLC as I do all my games (unless it's included in a limited edition package). After I finish a game I seldom go back to it because I'm usually on to something else. As for the season pass idea—I'm not sure if I'd be into it because of the fact that I don't even know what I'll be getting for my money. I have faith Borderlands 2 will deliver the goods but I would like to know what I'm buying before I put up the cash for it.
Well I know I'll be getting this. Borderlands 2 is one of my most anticipated games of this year, and I see no reason to NOT buy this and NOT save money on the DLC.
:EDIT: I don't know why ANYONE is complaining. If you're going to buy this game and you love Borderlands, you'll also be SAVING money on the quality DLC you know Gearbox will pump out.
They could avoid this whole Season Pass thing all together and just make you pay around $15 per DLC (most likely release 3-4, you can do the math), and you'll have to spend money each time they are released.
But I'd much rather spend $30 when the game releases, get all the DLC released and NOT have to worry about anything but clicking the download button when they're released.
Oh, another thing people should know. Randy Pitchford said himself that the DLC they will release will be based on demand. So if all you "Borderlands fans" want to wait for the GOTY editions, you'll be making the amount of DLC we get a lot less.
Hop on it sooner, and support them, then they'll know we want more DLC, and what types of DLC we want.
Or, you know, you can just keep buying Battlefield 3, Blops 2, and such instead. Screw creative powerhouses like Borderlands./s
How does paying early tell them what kind of DLC we want? O.o I'll wait to see what the DLC is before I pay for it. If that means less DLC available in the long run, oh well. Not all of the Borderlands DLC was worth buying imo. I do agree no one should complain about this though. A large group of people have shown willingness to pay for online play, which makes way less sense than paying an early discounted price for DLC.
It won't tell them what you want, but it will tell them that a lot of people do want something.
It's economics 101: the more money they get, the more budget they have to keep pumping out DLC all year long. If everyone will wait for the GOTY edition in 7.5$ it implies that people don't really care and hence there's no point for Gearbox to actually make more DLC content.
Now, obviously pre-purchasing DLC is risking your money, but based on their output from the previous Borderlands game, Gearbox is one of the only studios who actually know how to put DLC that is worth your money. So I tend to trust them more than your average developer in that area.
Yeah I understand it's good for them to get money up front and I don't have a problem with it. If you already know you're gonna buy all future DLC, then pay a discounted price now and be happy. I bought all the Borderlands DLC and didn't feel it was all worth it, so I'll wait to see what the BL2 DLC is instead of paying for it up front.
I don't see why people are complaining about this? Don't likee season pass? Don't get it. Wait till there's a DLC bundle or whatever. this shouldn't stop people from buying it. Stupid if you've been looking forward to this game and now say you'll wait a year or so for goty, just because of something optional. I will be getting the game but not the season pass. If its anything like the first Borderlands, it'll be full of content without DLC.
Why are people so shocked? We knew there was gonna be dlc for borderlands 2, gearbox has said as much. So you can buy it separately, at a discount with the seasons pass, or not at all.I just don't understand why people are acting like they are getting sold an incomplete game now. Borderlands has some off the most successful dlc this gen, of course the sequel would have dlc. I don't really care for dlc, but that's just logically leveraging past pedigree.
What the hell jobs do some of you have to be moaning about $90? I sell cellphones and can still afford a decent apartment, my M3, all my gaming addictions, gf and all the amenities like cable, fast as hell internet, etc. Even with all that I have a few grand in the bank. People with kids are exempt of course ;)
It is annoying, I'll give you that. We went from $50 games to essentially $90 with these ridiculous season passes. I'm impatient though and can't wait six months to a year for the GOTY addition so I usually suck it up and pay. It's greed in it's purest form. They charge that much because they know impatient people like me will pay. I'm the problem! I'm sorry everyone :(
GOTY edition like I predicted. I'm never doing this, idc how much I enjoy the game. SORRY, I'm not supporting this crap, regardless of who develops the game. I'll pay for DLC that I CHOOSE to pay for, this won't be it sorry. See you next year borderlands 2.
So far I done 2 season passes the first was for L.A. Noire and Gears 3.
For L.A. Noire we knew what we were getting up front BUT the reason we knew what we were getting up front is because Rockstar cut it out of the game then resold it to us.
Shady business if you ask me.
The second was Gears 3. Epic chose to repaint the pre-order stuff and redo a bunch of Gears 1 and 2 maps in both cases I already had most of what the RE-sold me all over again. We also got re-ups which should have been in the game in the first place.
Once again shady business and lazy on top of that.
I have a feeling what is going to happen with Borderlands 2 is we are going to get the pre-order bonuses and the pre-order arena as part of the "season pass" once again I will already have that stuff because I've pre-ordered.
We will also probably get early unlocks on this or that gun extra or a bank that should have been in the game in the first place. Let me ask you this, with 80 bazillion guns already in the game, how many more do we need? We've already seen from numerous Devs time and time again the early adopter gets screwed in the end.
I support the season pass. Hopefully it will keep a decent team working on dlc. With out it they would be likely to reassign more people to other projects like Aliens: CM.
However I am concerned about the dlc to come. I enjoyed the additional story that came with ZIDN, KNOXX, and CLAPTRAP.
What has me worried is that I'm pretty sure I saw an interview where Randy thought the varied environments, missions and 50ish hours was plenty of story.
The idea seemed to be that as long as the mechromancer was a success the main focus would be playable characters for dlc. While different action skills are neat the gameplay is fundamentally the same. I get more enjoyment from story.
.... then you pay an extra 30 bucks to get all the content...
Yeah, I sure love this generation's greed(!)
Oh well, yet another game that won't be bought by me until theres a complete release.
... pretty sure Borderlands 2 isn't going anywhere, and will still be available 1 year from now, most likely a GOTY-edition for 20-30 bucks.
I might get it then. Or perhaps I will have lost interest by then. I don't know yet.

I'm a very patient 'stingy' guy, and there are lots more games to pick up from the bargain-bin until Borderlands 2 hits it...

...unless they do
Season pass 30$
inevitable DLC 40$
Game of the year edition 7.5$
I will wait for GoTY edition, even then I still have a feeling it will be like 1 with new skins.
Depends really, some season passes include all DLC (LA Noire, COD) whilst others don't (Saints Row 3, Uncharted 3, Darksiders 2 etc), not all season passes are worth it :)

I, and other intellectuals, are with you one hundred percent.

Fools are soon parted from their money.
and 99% of the games that have one I avoid. if the pass is free with new buys, then it can't be helped.
I absolutely DO NOT like the idea that they have my money up front and can deliver weak DLC later on, it's like buying those mystery prize bags, you never know what you are going to get.
Nope not ever doing that again.
Time to get to your backlog and wait for a GOTY edition

worked out pretty well for me with the original.
Lay out all the details and benefits and i'll still call foul - because there has to be another way.
guess that's how sh*t goes now-a-days.
...not completely shocked but kinda let down on this whole "season pass" nonsense.
Damnit
