One writer argues why Dead Space is the modern survival-horror game that all others should aspire to.
Well the first Dead Space is anyway...
EA have turned Dead Space into just another action based shooter
Amnesia or the Penumbra episodes are. Dead Space (the original) however, is a perfect template of an action-horror game. "Dead Space simplifies this with its lack of any keys or puzzle objects in the inventory. This leaves you free to use your space for important things like ammo and health. It cuts down the item management to the truly important things but still manages to maintain the balancing act of having to drop precious ammo for health or vice versa. As the game progresses, you get more inventory spaces and it becomes less of a problem, but I still feel this is how future survival-horror games should approach it." No, abosof*ckinglutely NOT! The problem with dead space is that it lacks the "survival" element and more focused on the kill-and-dominate scenarios. Crimson zombies, hunters and other monsters in the biohazard franchise is exactly why even the best guns don't necessarily guarantee success. Which, in itself a survival balance mechanic between running and utilizing ammo sparingly. Dead Space's basic weapon is still the best weapons, heck there is a trophy/achievement for utilizing it the entirety of the gameplay.
