Can Madden NFL 13 Save the Video Game Industry?

It's time to begin tossing around the virtual pigskin again. Electronic Arts' (EA) Madden NFL 13 hit stores on Tuesday.

It's a pretty big event for the NFL-licensed football game. Best Buy (BBY) opened many of its stores at midnight on Monday night to begin selling the console title. GameStop (GME) was offering an EA Sports ball cap to anyone buying the game on Tuesday.

In an industry that has suffered three years of brutal declines, Madden NFL 13 is rare cause for a celebration -- and the industry doesn't want you to forget it.

My thoughts exactly. From a quality gameplay perspective, Madden is having a hard enough time saving itself, let alone the industry as a whole. If anything, it has become more of a disservice to the industry with its stagnation and monopolistic practices.

i'm a HUGE ANTI-MADDEN guy, because they release the same game every year with an advertising GIMMICK and a roster update... one year it was "ON FIELD REFS"... omfg, anyway, BECAUSE they actually put some thought and innovation into this years game with the options but mainly, PHYSICS engine, i decided to pick it up.... and i'm glad i did. it's been a lot of fun and is finally a madden worth owning. At least for now.

this is the first Madden I have bought in 4yrs. I skipped over the last 3yrs deciding to rent instead of buying because like you, I felt the changes didn't warrant a buy. In fact you could argue that Madden 9-12 were basically the same game with minor tweaks that could have easily been handled with a DLC patch.

This Madden however has actual changes...and ones that I feel put it up there as one of the best Madden releases in its history.

But it still has issues that were in previous maddens. The horrible OL/DL iterations are still there and the AI still makes the dumbest decision. These are only the few issues I named and I don't have time to name the rest. The new physics engine is a welcome addiction but it needs serious tweaking.

Bottom line, madden is a horrible representation of the NFL. There needs to another football game on the market because this is not cutting it, and this is coming from a guy who loved madden on ps2. I'm a simulation type of guy and madden feels arcade to me. 2K sports really needs to make another football game.

A Multi-Billion dollar industry that is amongst the fastest growing in the world, does not need saving.

What we need to do is save our minds from this utter nonsense.

Seriously, people love being negative and acting like they are somehow making a valid point , when they clearly have failed to think things through.
