Spec Ops: The Line's "bullsh*t" multiplayer "literally a check box"

The online component for Spec Ops: The Line seriously irks lead designer Cory Davis from developer Yager because it's something the team didn't want, and was in fact handled by another studio.

2K Games "was relentless" in securing multiplayer made it in despite being "literally a check box" feature. Online was "never a focus" and game mechanics "were raped" to fit in multiplayer.

Cory Davis is one unimpressed lead designer. The online side barely represented what Spec Ops was, he added, pointing out that no one plays it because it stinks. (PC, PS3, Spec Ops: The Line, Xbox 360)

The SP of the game is definatly the sleeper pick for GOTY IMO. One of the best stories in a TPS game ive ever experinced!

I agree I loved the single player. The multiplayer wasn't bad just, I felt, it didn't really fit with the tone of the game, didn't really add anything and because of this not many play it.

I hope more people pick up this game because the single player story is great

Just goes to show that not all games, (even shooters) need, or should have Multiplayer.

Even the devs are saying it now.

If someone designed a car to be a single passenger car from the beginning and suddenly added in another 3 seats last minute would that also prove to you that having a car with more than one seat doesnt work?

IMO they made a poor design choice. Most games now come with online(even shooters,especially shooters actually) so for them to try to skip it was a bad decision. Not the publisher or shareholders fault for wanting the game to be able to compete with other shooters that will be right beside it on the shelf for the same price but have higher replay value because they have online.
