Vita has no games? Think again. Here's 10 promising titles coming this year

PSU writes: "PlayStation Vita gets a lot of flak for not having the most robust library in gaming, but it still deserves some credit. After all, Vita's launch line-up was arguably one of the greatest in history - in terms of variety, quality, and quantity - and the handheld has even received a few standout experiences in the months since.

But you know what really grinds my PlayStation-loving gears? Seeing critics and dissenters ignore the absolutely stellar line-up of Vita games coming before the year is out. In the next few months, tons of truly promising titles are coming to Sony's shiny new handheld. Here's 10 of them." (PS Vita)

Bimkoblerutso  +   272d ago
^People in general are just panicky and stupid. The numbers HAVE been pretty low, admittedly, but it's apparently only because people assumed the Vita should have had a generation's worth of AAA games right out of the gates.

It's been a little slow the last few months, but then EVERY CONSOLE IN EXISTENCE goes through dry patches. For whatever reason, the Vita has just become the whipping boy.

ABizzle, ports don't count! We all know nobody buys Battlefield on Xbox because they can get the "SUPERIOR" version on PC, AMIRITE?!

...

In all seriousness I'll be getting LBPV, Persona 4, Ragnarok Oddyssey, and Battle Royale in the next few months. After that I'll be waiting on Tearaway, Soul Sacrifice, and Killzone. For now I'm getting my money's worth from Sound Shapes, Dissidia FF, and Mortal Kombat. Bring on the disagrees haters. :P

"Vita has no games, here's 10 that aren't out yet"

Vita has no games is what I say anyway/ It has a few games, more are coming out soon, when they come out I will buy a Vita. Either way, when someone says it has no games they mean it doesn't right now. It certainly has games coming out soon.
Hisiru  +   272d ago
Looking at this list...
Multiplatform/Ports/Remakes/G ames I can have on my HD console (PS3):
-Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault
-PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale
-Persona 4 Golden
-Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified
-Street Fighter X Tekken
-Need for Speed: Most Wanted
-Madden NFL 13

New games for Vita:
-Assassin's Creed III: Liberation
-LittleBigPlanet PS Vita
-Ragnarok Odyssey

That's the problem with vita, and not that it "has no games". I hope Sony will bring more exclusive games, vita is not a home console and they need to understand it. I am expecting to see some original/exclusive vita titles at TGS (Loco Roco? Patapon?)

Of course Vita has games, in fact it had a good launch of titles. The problem has been since that. Since March they have only reviewed 7 games.

http://www.gamespot.com/rev...

Things will pick up soon. It's far too early to be writing the system off, after Christmas of 2013 we will have a much clearer picture to how successful Vita will be and has been.
sikbeta  +   271d ago
Vita has games, but not system sellers and physical BC.

System Sellers like Monster Hunter could have helped the Vita in Japan alone, but now the franchise went to 3DS.

Physical BC could have been a huge incentive to buy a Vita and replay all those nice PSP games while waiting for heavy hitters, but since you can only play games downloaded from PSN, which means, RE-buy a limited selection of games that people already have, it's not an incentive at all to be honest...

@tentonsoftube's reply to me
Can't argue against that logic, but that's not the point of my reply. You asked a question; I correctly answered it (given that you didn't disprove it).

I'm not saying the trite PSV doomed articles weren't stupid. But having your head up in the clouds pretending no one was previously saying "Vita has no games" is fallacious.

Well, they just don't release them fast enough like they do in Japan.

Been waiting for months to get Ragnarok Odyssey only to find out it keeps on getting pushed back, even though the game is done and ready.

It's a weird decision to have it pushed back to when every other Vita game gets released, which is October.

i dont think anyone is saying it has no games - just no, good $40 worthy games...

(on a side note, why is Black Ops Declassified $50 on Amazon? $50 for a handheld slumped port? ok...)

just because it says Black Ops doesn't mean it is a port. It doesn't use the same engine or is the same game at all.
morganfell  +   272d ago
Blaze, not okay.

One MP map doesn't make a port. The game takes place between Black Ops and Black Ops II. It isn't a port.

@Mustang300C2012

Actually, it's less than a port, but still one. It is made from the previous games engine. Just with insanely poor graphics, only 4vs4 and no nazi zombies.

It's a terrible idea. I'm not a fan of COD(anymore) but it really made no sense. It should have been a Vita version of Black Ops 2 with PS3 crossplay. Same game, just scaled down.

Chances are Sony asked them if they'd make COD for Vita and since they were mid development on Blops 2 they said they didn't have time to make it for Vita so instead suggested Nihilistic could make it instead for a quick/easy cash in.

The problem here is an awful game and most have seen the gameplay so won't even bother.
Xof  +   272d ago
People who don't delude themselves. The Vita has had virtually zero content on the PSN (weekly updates of "no games") and doesn't really have -any- retail games lined up at all in the June-October stretch.

When people criticize the Vita's line-up, they're not talking about the console getting games in the past or future, they're talking about the present. Right now, for the past several weeks, and for the next several weeks the Vita has -zero- support.

And it sucks.

And to make matters worse, it's hard to even discuss this awful state of affairs without fanboys attacking, trying to argue that a five-month long stretch of nothing is somehow excusable if there are a handful of decent games bookending the drought.

Or, worse, try to argue that it's understandable in the "summer" (even though the drought eclipses most of Autumn, too) or because the Vita is "new," even though even consoles that are "dead" like the Wii and NDS have had more support in the same timeframe.

But, by all means, continue to pretend the Vita is doing just great. After all, God forbid anyone at Sony take notice of consumer dissatisfaction and decide to do something about that. Sheesh.
xursz  +   272d ago
I'm not going to argue with you, I'm not even going to disagree, I get dissapointed sometimes when I see the PS3 get tons of support every week and the Vita seemingly get ignored. Then I think how the PS3 was in a similar situation at launch, if not worse, and I gain faith that the Vita was destined to follow the same fate, practically everyone trolling the system at launch because of "slow sales", "lack of support", and so on, so I'm patient.
darkride66  +   272d ago
I've been one of those complaining about the Vita's lack of games I want to play - but that's it right there. Games I want to play. To say the Vita has zero content and no support is ridiculous. And hey, even if you can't find anything to play in the 50+ games out there for it right now, do what I do. Download some of the PSP gems you may have missed. That's what I did when the PS3 launched. Played the games I wanted to and then while the library built up, I went back and played PS2 games I missed the first time around.

Edit: I see the PimpDaddy account has flared up again like a haemorrhoid. Once every 3 months or so it'll pop up, flame Sony fans and troll Sony articles like crazy, go quiet for 3 months, then do it again, yet it's logging in all the time. How much you want a bet it's active bubbling/debubbling accounts on a regular basis though. Mods? Perhaps worth a look?

Vita launched with the best launch lineup in a long time not just for sony but for any console. So maybe sony should have spread those titles over a 4-6 months period but even than people won't be happy. So sony did the smart thing just launch with a lot of great content

Nothing that justifies a $250 purchase plus another $50 for the memory card excluding the games.

I would rather get a smart phone and at least I can do plenty of other things than just game on it. It is far more portable too.

Heck, I could get a 3DS for almost half the price of a PS Vita and it has games!!!
Kobe357  +   271d ago
@nukeitail "nothing that justifys a 250 purchase" Thanks for your opnion bud but just because it reigns true for you doesn't mean it applies to the others that have and will buy a Vita

Call of Duty has a 95% chance of failing miserably. The proof is in the developer.
G20WLY  +   272d ago
That's a specific number, obviously derived scientifically /s

Okay, reality check; it took only months to make, so it's a fair assumption the budget was a fraction of BLOPS2. I don't know any more than you do whether the game will be good or not (okay, we all have our gut reaction), but it's plain delusional to think the COD name alone won't ensure this turns a worthwhile profit...
MelonSaurus  +   271d ago
Um, I'd like you to look up Nihilistic Games for me, check out the games they've made, and see what scores they've gotten on Metacritic. Then get back to me on that. Nothing delusional about facts.
G20WLY  +   271d ago
lol, yeah, thanks I am aware, but apart from h4rdc0rz how many people that purchase games do you think check Metacritic first?

I'll help you out; consider christmas presents bought by those that aren't gamers...hmm

To be clear, I'm not 1) attacking you, 2) suggesting that the game deserves to be a hit or 3) discussing developer credability. I'm simply saying COD will turn a profit, whether we like it or not. It's like Mario; it sells regardless - FACT ;P
gamer7804  +   272d ago
On that list , there is only 1 new IP. Ragnarok Odyssey (which does look promising).

The problem is vita is lacking the support of developers to really create something specifically for the vita that isn't some smaller indy/puzzler title. Something AAA. Instead we get lackluster spinoffs or ports (save assassins creed if you are into that series).
Infiny  +   272d ago
Actually... Ragnarok Odyssey is not a "new" IP, its based on Ragnarok Online MMO.

I don't think that only triple A will "save" the Vita, I really think it has some really great games even before the gamescon, give it time, i'm sure it will catch up on sales (at least I hope so).
kikizoo  +   272d ago

That is a nice list. If you're a PS3 owner that wants PS3 type games on the go. But this doesn't solve the problem the Vita faces.

It's not a lack of games, or the price, but a lack of interest in the console. I mean the Vita ONLY sold 400,000 console this past quarter. That averages out to 133,333 Vita's sold per month between April-June. That is less than the PSP or original DS sold in the same time period.

I think Sony misjudged the current marketplace. Smartphones and Tablets have replaced handheld gaming consoles as the popular platform for "mobile" gaming.

The only reason the 3DS isn't suffering the same fate as the Vita is because Nintendo has a loyal following of people that like to play thier "type" of games...
jperez96  +   272d ago
You don't think people would like a good portable fps? or an MMO? You don't think that people would like their favorite classics on the go? I know i do and I think Sony's only mistake is not marketing the vita properly. A few rpgs in Japan and shooters in US and the vita will be just fine.
pandaboy  +   272d ago
Nope, most people want the short sweet and fun mobile games for on the go. Too many people here live out their lives in their basements and are out of touch with reality. RIP Vita.
PimpDaddy  +   272d ago
I didn't say that people wouldn't want their favorite types of games on the go. If they are the so called "hard-core" gamers that want to play those types of games on the go then those games listed are appealing. The problem is that most of that demographic already play those games on their PS3/360 and haven't found a need to buy a Vita.

The Vita has been out since December in Japan and February everywhere else. For it to only have sold 2.2 million consoles worldwide by the end of June is proof that the demand is poor.

I may get bombarded with disagrees because of the bias on this site towards Sony. But regardless of the difference of opinion. The fact remains that although the Vita is the "best" piece of hardware for mobile gaming, it doesn't appeal to mass market and that is a serious problem for Sony.

LittleBigPlanet PS Vita
"Sackboy's debut on Vita would be special even if the game were a rehash of the incomparable LittleBigPlanet 2, but thankfully, LittleBigPlanet PS Vita (I know, awkward title) looks even better. Front-touch, back-touch, and gyroscopic controls add a compelling layer of puzzle-solving and navigational depth to the platforming experience we already love, and every single piece of LittleBigPlanet 2 community content and DLC will work on Vita, day one. We've got a hunch that LittleBigPlanet PS Vita will be in the running on many Game of the Year lists - for it's first year, Vita could hardly ask for a better blessing."

Damn straight. This is my most anticipated game for the rest of 2012. Only one more month and I'll have my new favorite handheld game. I didn't even know all the LBP2 community levels would be available in LBP Vita. That's incredible, my excitement for this game has just increased tremendously. LBP2 is my favorite game on PS3, mainly because of the mind blowing 7 million user created levels and now I'll be able to play them on the go along with new LBP levels made specifically for the Vita.

I'm also getting: Ragnarok Odyssey, PS All-Stars, Persona 4 Golden, Ratchet & Clank: FFA, Retro City Rampage, Snapshot, Assassin's Creed III: Liberation, Soul Sacrifice, Guacamelee, Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time, Killzone Mercenary, and Tearaway.

So far, most of the games I've played on my Vita are fan-fucking-tastic. I'm in love with the PS Vita. Probably because I have such great taste in games. ;D

I was on the fence about Persona 4 Golden too. So I picked up Persona 3 Portable when it was on sale for $10 on PSN about three/four weeks ago. 70 hours in and I can honestly say it's now one of my favourite rpgs. From what I've read on forums Persona 4 is better in many ways so I'll definitely be picking this up when it drops.

IMO portable gaming is (for me) the most convenient way to play rpgs so I'm really looking forward to Ragnarok, FFX HD and catching up on older PSP titles that I missed.

One very big problem at least in my area is when I go to a Toys r us,Best buy,Target etc. the VITA games available are bare like at most 5 titles to choose from Uncharted,Wipeout,Hot Shots Golf are always the only games available even Gamestop is guilty of this. I had to go online just to buy games like Virtua tennis 4, shinobido,Ninja Gaiden Sigma, if non VITA owning consumers walk in to a retail store and see a few titles available instead of the whole or most of the VITA titles on display then what's going to entice the casual consumer to take the plunge. I don't know if this is Sony's fault or what but this needs to be fixed to draw interest from impulse casual buyers. I know of the many games available but the non internet dwellers don't, example being the 3ds section having most of their library of games on display.
MonopolyRSV  +   272d ago
The problem isn't lack of games, the problem is lack of system-selling games. All I see are ports and a ton of single player titles. Yeah, there may be some multiplayer games but that doesn't mean anything if the install base is tiny.

Your title is very funny. The Vita hasn't got a great amount of games, it practically has none. But there is titles coming out, sometime, in the future. Even your title shows this fact. I bought a Vita for Unit 13 only to find it was garbage now i'm waiting on Monster Hunter.

No thank you , Hence the common opinion b4 Gamescon......

It has no games.... If you own 1 already, of course your opinion 's gonna reflect " Justification " of your purchase.
rezzah  +   272d ago
It has games because there are games on the Vita that you can't play on the PS3.

Prove me wrong.

Your opinion of the games being rehashes do not mean all the games are exact replicas, instead they're their own game with unique experiences.

I bought mine because I saw the games it had prior to the release of the Vita. I don't buy systems only to realise they have nothing that I want to play.

Your opinion of the Vita having no games is your justification for not buying one. Makes sense to not buy a system that has no games you are interested in , but to claim all the games are worthless is wrong based on your point of view. Suck it up and go look to something else that is more for you.
Mustang300C2012  +   271d ago
So far regardless of the few original or ports available, they haven't had mass appeal worldwide so the current crop of games are not appealing enough to the current demographic that sees the Vita being a must have system.
DuncesOfWur  +   272d ago
Whilst I'm a vita fan I struggle to get excited for games that will be/already available on other platforms.

It should be judged based on games you can ONLY play on vita and unfortunately that's only a handful and the majority aren't really decent. It needs some selling points, saying I can play a poor man's version of call of duty isn't a selling point. Playing the worst entry in the uncharted series also isn't a great selling point. If they ended up reinventing an old IP exclusive to the vita that was decent then I'll get excited.

I am a vita fan but I'm also realistic. Every other platform has a lot more to offer.
abzdine  +   271d ago

Ratchet, LBP and definite buys for me.
