Honestly? Yes I would, games allow you to do things you wouldn't even dream of doing in your every day life. Violence is part of that and if that were gone I'd probably still play some games but not like before.
Strange isn't it... I'd never be a pro hockey player or an F1 driver either, but I agree with what you said. Taking out violence would put a real dampener on things.
Depends on what your definition of violence is...are we talking about God of War type of violence or Call of Duty type of violence?
As an old school gamer who started of on the NES where they key factor to gaming was how fun the levels were instead of ZOMG! someones head just got ripped off I will still be gaming if they took the violence out of game...Nintendo has proven with games like Mario Galaxy and Zelda that games can still be fun without the gore and killing.
Edit: Which is why I said depends on what your definition of violence is.
Zelda games are Rated E for Everyone - Titles rated E (Everyone) have content that may be suitable for ages 6 and older. Titles in this category may contain minimal cartoon, fantasy or mild violence and/or infrequent use of mild language. It is the equivalent of a G rated movie.
God of War games are rate M for Mature - Mature
Titles rated M (Mature) have content that may be suitable for persons ages 17 and older. Titles in this category may contain intense violence, blood and gore, sexual content, and/or strong language. It is the equivalent of a R rated movie. No games created by Nintendo are rated M.
But Mario and Zelda both have violence too. In Mario you crush your enemies with your body and Zelda you wield a sword and even the most cartoonish installment (wind waker) you stab someone in the forehead with your sword. Violence is in most good games.
Agreed although im tired of blood and gore games, why should gaming be censored if you van see a movie with gore, or hear a song about killing and hell, or even reading about bloodshed, its kind of hypocritical.
If violence was banned then every game would be cartoonish since there would be no point to put any form of realism in a game. Violence is inescapable in the real world so nobody should be offended by violence in videogames. If one is easily offended by violence then they should go move into an isolated cave in the middle of nowhere.
Do I enjoy non violent games? Yes, Journey for example was cracking. Would I take a stand if censorship were imposed? Most likely. The violent games out there already do not influence my ability to choose between a non violent and a violent video game whereas censorship would force my hand.
I'd have to say yes. People annoy me, I said it. I get frustrated and what do I do? I go put on a game and beat the crap out of a fake character, or go join the army, or play in a professional sports league. I can't do this all in real life, so whats the point if 90 percent of it disappeared?
I don't support censorship, and that would be the main reason I quit. There are plenty games I enjoy that are not violent, so I'd still be able to play games, I'd just choose not to until the censorship is gone.
Lets face it, the world is violent, and games reflect the world. Its just more dramatic fashion, thats it. If you were training kids and people that its all fairy tales and perfect and everyone is nice, they would have a HORRIBLE wake up call when they stepped outside.
Well, I wouldn't drop gaming, as I still have three, four generations of games to play, and the systems to play them on. I wouldn't suddenly stop playing games I already have because someone fools decided new games could no longer have violence in them.
And while I wouldn't agree with the censorship of games in such a way, I don't think it'd be good if we all just stopped buying games, either, as all our favorite companies would already be suffering plenty from the ban. At the same time, though, I couldn't see myself buying games I had no interest in solely for the purpose of making sure my favorite developer stayed afloat.
Thinking about it, this would be one quick and easy way to kill off gaming, as most of the money made in the industry right now is from violent games. There'd be a pandemic of layoffs and entire genres would cease to exist; when it was all said and done, there'd be little left, and less worth buying.
For my part, I wouldn't stop gaming, but there wouldn't be enough left of "current" gaming to keep me interested.
All of you saying that you will stop gaming if they stop the violence in games are a disgrace. Games are meant to be fun and entertaining violence is an added feature that is not needed but enjoyed. Ive been gaming since atari and in no way do I think a game has to be violent to be good. This is just my opinion.
Lets see what would be left, if All violence was banned from video games racing games and maybe sports games and puzzle games. I would quit gaming because neither type of game appeals to me, so i am a disgrace because of my opinion or preference in gaming.
I have been gaming since the atari also, want a cookie for being special, your still a jackass for looking down at people that have a different opinion than you.
Has to be violent, no but that doesn't mean i want a moral ass dictating to me that i am a disgrace because i enjoy violent video games.
Really a disgrace, save that bs for the people that commit actual crimes or cause serious physical, emotional or financial hardships for people.
I didn't own every atari game there was, but almost everyone i did have besides pong, had some form violence in it. Either done by or to the player, so you enjoy the vast library of none violent games.
Any sim city types, most tycoon games, the sims, any pet simulator, maybe some mysteries, puzzle, sports, racing and word games or card games.
Because there is violence in some for or another in 80-90% of video games out there and mario and other non graphic or cartoon violence isn't excluded.
Better people relieve tension or stress by playing violent video games, than going out and hurt people in real life.
Absolutely Not, in fact I'd applaude it. However, I think the games market would shrink over night, Publishers & development houses would cease to be profitable, exist.
So in other words, There'd be Ice in Hell b4 something like that EVER happened.
And very few have the REAL SKILL & Creativity to make a fun, immersive game, without violence.
