The All Time Greatest Wrestling Games

Esteban Cuevas of Metal Arcade writes:

Remember in the late 90′s when professional wrestling became extremely popular again? I do. I was a big fan of the WWF back then, now called the WWE. My favorite wrestler was The Rock. He was powerful, yet agile. Although I loved watching Raw every Monday and eventually Smackdown on Thursdays, the main reason why I was into wrestling was the games. Although at the time I focused on the WWF titles, I grew curious and not much later I tried the WCW games. Both companies made incredible games and their respective developers did a good job to distinguish the two; however I will say that THQ is the king of wrestling games. There’s a reason that they’ve made every WWE game for over a decade. Regardless of developer, wrestling games are an important segment of video game history and was a new genre for the medium. Some say wrestling games are fighting games or sports games. I think they’ve created their own genre. (PS2, Retro, WWF No Mercy, WWF Smackdown 2)

I loved No Mercy the most. I would love an HD remake of that. Hell, I'd love to see a HD COllection of all the PS2 games as well

Omg! WcW/NWO Revenge! <3 Best wrestling game ever. Closely followed by No Mercy.

What about WWF Wrestlemania 2000? It was the predecessor to No Mercy and should at least get a honorable mention. It's funny just a day ago I was telling my girlfriend how I drove an hour away in the middle of the night just to find a 24 hour Walmart that had it in stock.

I didn't write the article, but if I had, it would definitely be in there! I remember buying it day 1 at Toys R Us when I was like 11.

Tecmo wrestling should have been mentioned, as well as arcade entries by sega and the fire pro wrestling series.

SvR 2007 is my favorite and redefined the wrestling genre, the next ones will be less enjoyable (I prefered Story mode of the first SvR game)

Obviously everyone has their own faves that they think should be on the list, but this is just one writer's (not mine) opinion.
