Europe won't have a Wii U press conference, confirms Nintendo

Press outlets have begun receiving invitations to a Wii U event in New York, which is scheduled for September 13 and will be hosted by Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime.

However, a Nintendo UK spokesperson has told Digital Spy that there won't be an equivalent event in Europe.

"We are not planning a specific European event like NOA, however we are looking to put the new Wii U console in the hands of as many people across Europe as possible and we will be in contact with news of our UK communications plan in the near future."

Nintendo last held a similar event in New York and Amsterdam in 2011, during which it announced the price and release date for the Nintendo 3DS. (Nintendo, Wii U)

Is anyone else getting the impression that they are not expecting the Europe/UK Launch to go terribly well.....
LightofDarkness  +   1265d ago
Yes, and now it seems they are taking measures to ensure that happens by essentially affirming that they don't really give a crap about their European customers (certainly not to the extent of their other major territories).

They really are setting up the WiiU to fail, aren't they?

I under the impression Europe won't get the Wii-U until 2013.

"Well if the event is going to be showing us release dates and prices then a EU one isn't even needed, why waste money revealing the same information twice?"

What a fanboy statement. I guess people expect gamers to be excited about a system they barely know about and in the U.K we don't use dollars. The media in a certain country should be able to see and demo the console as well as other gamers attending any press event. When Nintendo previews the Wii u in America Nintendo will announce an American price with things that appeals mostly to Americans.

I'm not a cowboy anyway so I don't need a Wii u.

You guys do know that the conference will hit the internet after its done anyway. So what are the EU missing from seeing it online? Its where I am seeing it. I am not visiting NY to watch a conference. One conference and one place makes more sense to me. No matter where its launching.

I obviously want the release date and price from this but also I want to see these 'other' games they have up their sleeve, that could be TGS though

i hope it's not another patronizing "let me show you how the controller works" again and show some new stuff and more about the console.

Show me something my PS3 can't do.

Give me a reason to buy one. I dare you Nintendo.
(And checking your inventory on your controller screen doesn't count.)
