Why Sony’s Gamescom Showing Is Both Impressive and Worrisome | RipTen

Coming out of E3, Sony had some problems to address. While the PlayStation powerhouse showed off impressive exclusives like The Last of Us and Beyond: Two Souls, they also suffered from the momentum-breaking Wonderbook and an utter lack of a push for the PlayStation Vita. Having attended that conference in person, I experienced firsthand the ups and downs of their demonstration that failed to excite the masses as it otherwise should have. Last week at Gamescom, however, Sony saw the error of its ways and delivered the conference fans wanted at E3. (PS Vita, PS3, Sony)

So the only things that worry you is a single game and the fact that they didn't announce a price drop which they already explained that they would be using bundles and won't be dropping the price until next year? Talk about reaching for problems.

Well first of all thank you for the comment on the article, always appreciate someone reading my work, but I think if you read my work a little more closely you'll find my problem with the Vita is slightly different than what you say. I do address the price drop concern I have and say it can be brushed aside because of the Cross Buy functionality. I may not mention the bundles but I am well aware of them and that is why I do not harp too much on the price, so I'm sorry if you thought that was one of my primary points.

My main problem with the system, and this is as a Vita owner, is that the release of quality exclusive titles is too few and far between. Granted, the Cross Buy games are great selections, but they aren't true exclusives. I'd love to see a Sound Shapes, a Gravity Rush or a Lumines style exclusive released more than every couple of months. I think that's what the issue is because enough quality exclusives with quality multiplatform releases in between can really turn those who are not sure, at least that's what I think.

And when one of the most important exclusives is given to an unproven developer, that worries me even further. Those were my main concerns, the lack of games and the problems with one very key title. I don't believe that is reaching for problems, but I think to say the Vita has no issues is ignoring the fact that the system isn't selling for a reason. This happens to be the reason I believe, but that's just my thoughts about it.

How dare you say anything bad about Sony, or the Vita!!!!11!!!one!!111!

@sway_z below.. why did you forget to mention the 360? Is the 360 hate on this site justified or something? Or did you just forget to add that to your list of things to be shameful of?

I am also worried about CoD: Declassified.

Not because its made by an unproven developer but because of the development time.

I always believe, even a middle tier developer can do great things given the time but if the time is constraint, even the best developer will have problems making a quality game.

I hope I am wrong but for a big title like this. I think rushing it would be a bad thing.

You say quality exclusives as if a high tech handheld like the Vita can conjure them at will. High quality requires time and effort and the more powerful the machine, the bigger the expectations. The expectations for the Vita aren't actually that far from the PS3 so you should expect a similar development time.

It's been on the market for a little over six months. Now I'm sure you would be the first to complain if 3rd party devs did just push lower class games, even if there were ten a month.

It's a choice you made when you bought the Vita. It's inherent in that purchase and so it was inevitable that the games would take longer to make. I knew that but I bought one at launch anyway. So, if you are going to complain about the lack of games, you better also expect lower quality games if you get what you want.

I'm sure if you did, this article would be slightly different and you would be complaining about that instead. I always find it telling when people write articles like this. They assume that everyone has exactly the same taste in games. What you want is not what everyone wants, but of course these articles will always draw in those that HAVE got similar tastes to you, even if they're in the minority.

many people are very happy with the software lineup. Some people are very happy that they can play PSP games too. I'm happy to have played only Golden Abyss in wait for LBPVita, but do you see me complaining about the lack of games? No, because I can only speak for myself and would never assume I am in the majority

That's very unrealistic
" I'd love to see a Sound Shapes, a Gravity Rush or a Lumines style exclusive released more than every couple of months."

would that go for everyone? but let's go back to reality for a min. There is no way on god's green earth that is even remotely going to happen!

The more indepth, the more extensive the game is going to be, the more time it's going to take to pass QA, if you don't than your going to have bug's that quite frankly in all likely hood break the game. If you do not expect it, than your not being very prudent, in making sure the game can release without as much bug's and glitches as you can.

beside's what your asking for Playstation Mobile is set to address those very concern's

the Number of developer's and publisher's have increased not shrunk, So sony must have reached some of the 3rd party developer's that were on the fence about developing for the Playstation Vita.

Those are Still Playstation Exclusives, your devices has to be compliant and on top of that, SCEE will be making Game's for the Playstation Mobile.

So called 'Gamers' should hang their heads in shame for the hate the Vita, Wii U & PS3 are getting.....

A real 'Gamer' would be happy there is choice and difference in our industry...instead willing failure.

sony could use better third party support, im not too worry about a price drop and even less worry about games, for crying out loud the psvita has got better support in 6 months than the ps3 ever did in a year and 6 months and look at how the ps3 is packed with exclusive titles now? as psvita owner im feeling very optimistic after the message sony sent at gamescon and the fact that the next wave of AAA vita titles are being developed by 2 of sonys ELITE studios (that gives me hope to see the likes of Sucker Punch, Naughty Dog, Polyphony Digital, Santa Monica and others) to follow that initiative and create new original titles on the system as well.

does anybody know when Ragnarok Odyssey is coming out? oh things i would have loved to see at the press conference are new Soul Sacrifice gameplay video and a Warrior's Lair update. but other than that it was very good.
