An article about the difficulty of attempting to trade an old 3DS into Gamestop plus do a system transfer to the 3DS XL when Gamestop doesn't have Wi-fi to it.
Do it at home, there wont be any trouble.
The trouble was getting the proper credit for the trade-in. It should have worked: 1. Buy 3ds XL 2. Bring it home, transfer 3. Go back to Gamestop 4. Process a "return" on the 3ds XL (to refund original amount) 5. RE-PURCHASE 3dS XL with $100 deducted for the trade in However, TONS of people were given grief by Gamestop, including yours truly. Some people weren't able to do this at all. My gamestop gave me the $100 as a store credit and never processed a return/re-purchase. So in the end I got my $100 as store credit, but still paid the full amount for my XL which was annoying. When I explained what happened to the clerk he said there was "no other way" to do it. WHen I explained the above / what he was supposed to do, he lamented how long that would take / he had a line / etc. It was BS but really, I'll spend $100 at GS so it doesn't really matter. I just couldn't stand to be around that idiot anymore.
I was fortunate enough to transfer it at home with absolutely no problems. However, I did know of a couple of people that ran into this wall and were effectively SOL. I also know a few people that were able to leave with both systems, transfer them at home, come back and finish the transaction; all that was needed was some simple collateral (ex. drivers license, or something of value like a tablet, etc.), buy a Gamestop employee and they were good... I guess it was at the employee's discretion, so if you were cool with someone there and had a good reputation and some type of collateral, I guess they didn't mind you doing this.
