Injustice: NetherRealm developing new system to push DLC characters to users' consoles

Eurogamer:

NetherRealm Studios is developing a new system to push Injustice: Gods Among Us downloadable content to all users' consoles.
The idea is that the game will connect to the internet whenever it's played and download the information required so that you'll be able to play against those who use DLC characters even if you haven't bought them. (Ed Boon, Injustice: Gods Among Us, PS3, Wii U, Xbox 360)

Not much of a fighting game person myself, but this is looking highly interesting. As a DC fan, I'll be sure to pick this up.

I enjoyed the mortal kombat remake a lot more than i ever thought. Hope they keep the same gameplay with this.

Not really seeing how this is better than on disc... It just seems like more downloading/waiting for updates just to have people feel like they downloaded a bigger file for DLC characters.

This has nothing to do with that. They're talking about making it so that people with new DLC can still play online with those who don't have said DLC. Also how is it no better than on disc DLC? They blatantly say it's traditional DLC that you download.

Right, I don't get how DLC you gotta get from the internet are better than ones you buy an unlock key for. You're still paying X amount of money for Y content, this just seems like it'll take longer.

It sounds more to me like you have an issue with DLC in general. In which case, whatever floats your boat. DLC is supposed to be an optional means to expand your game for a small price, not unlike an expansion pack.

This type of DLC is meant to be compatible with all forms of the game. That means that if I download new character A, I'd still be able to play with anyone who has not downloaded said character. How this can be seen as a bad thing for any reason is beyond me.

We don't even know the full roster but we're already talking DLC characters? It's great that they've found a workaround for the on disc problem from Capcom but damn...really? DLC already?
