Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn built from ground up, not a simple reboot

IncGamers: In a chat with the game’s producer Naoki Yoshida, he told IncGamers that the game is completely new and has been built from the ground up. (Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, PC, PS3)

if its not a patch or an expansion what the hell is it? if its a new game does that mean people will have to buy it again for the PC?

No. If you have the game already it just upgrades for free.

You can buy the game again for PS3 or PC with the new box-art and layout but that's only optional.

They've said this on their site and in several interviews.
