Opinion: Will Sony's Cross Buy PlayStation Initiative Come to U.S.?

FORBES: As someone rooting for Sony’s PS Vita, I and other websites want to believe Cross Buy won’t stay isolated to Europe; this is an initiative that will foster goodwill among Sony faithful and drive Vita hardware sales. Sadly, this is the part where I serve up some painful reminders. (PS Vita, PS3, Sony)

Ummm...it's coming to the US look here http://blog.us.playstation....
killyourfm  +   1143d ago
FWIW, they also use the phrasing "promotional pricing." No where in this blog post do they reference the Cross Buy initiative.
Whitefeather  +   1143d ago
Did you read the whole thing?

" If you buy the PS3 version of Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time (through traditional retailers or via PlayStation Network), you will be able to download the PS Vita version of Thieves in Time from PSN at no additional cost. That’s a pretty awesome deal!"

It's Forbes - they were a tad late to the video game industry. Their analysts, in almost every scenario, don't know what they're talking about.

They detail cross-play features -- they don't say it's part of the Cross Buy initiative in the US. These are two different things.

Cross-play: Cross platform features across both games.
Cross-Buy: Buy the PS3 version, get the Vita version free.

It's literally on PlayStation's United States blog, right on that link provided. How obvious do you want it to be? Either you're trolling for hits, or you're truly incapable of comprehending the simplest of things.
lodossrage  +   1143d ago
I don't agree with Rockefellow's attack.

BUT....he's right. There are NUMEROUS blog posts by various different developers all over the North America Playstation Blog with each of them talking in detail of how cross buy is coming to the North American game releases.
Rockefellow  +   1143d ago
Well, I suppose I didn't need to be such a jerk, but he seemed so adamant about defending his post, he defied something that was common knowledge and readily apparent with a few second's research.
GribbleGrunger  +   1143d ago
If it doesn't this would be a huge mistake by Sony
doctorstrange  +   1143d ago
Sony have confirmed it is coming, don't worry guys.
majiebeast  +   1143d ago
Sony will probably announce it at Pax officialy for the US. If it isnt the rage will be over 9000.
Rockefellow  +   1143d ago
What a surprise, the article's down on my PC and phone. Just a quick lesson that research could help stop embarrassment, folks.
MysticStrummer  +   1143d ago
Opinions have taken the place of research this generation, to the detriment of the industry.
Sevir  +   1143d ago
Why only have it one region
Its announced for all of the games on PS3 as far as Sony's first party line up that have a vita version! So Why ask that dumb question!? lol Its for Japan EU/UK and NA territories
lodossrage  +   1143d ago
Guys, just read the U.S. Blog
This IS coming to the North America as well.

Just read the sly cooper and rachet and clank full frontal assault blogs for yourselves and they tell you it.

It's also in just about every recent Zen Pinball 2 blog posting at the PS Blog.

Where are people getting this notion that it won't be in the U.S. when it's ALL OVER THE U.S. BLOG?
Qrphe  +   1143d ago
Why is this even being debated? (rhetoric question)

"In September 2009, Sony introduced another promotion that would foster goodwill — at the time for its PSP Go, a UMD-less upgrade to its PlayStation Portable. Dubbed “PSP Go Rewards,”

"Earlier that year (June 2009), Sony’s John Koller (director of hardware marketing) told Gizmodo the company was discussing a “UMD game trade-in program” which would allow gamers to trade in their physical game disks for digital copies on the PSP Go."

"Two initiatives teased to the world within the span of a few months; two initiatives that never saw the light of day in the United States."

"Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu recently asked SCE’s Worldwide Studio Head Shuhei Yoshida how the company’s bevy of announcements would affect Japan. According to a translation by Andriasang, Yoshida stated that Cross Buy was currently only for Europe."

He makes a valid point! It wouldn't be the first time Sony dissed us in the US as the Vita was supposed to have some type of transfer option with PSP UMD's to Vita, but it only happened in Japan. Plus famitsu's clearly quoting what Yoshida said; unless there was some type of translation error which I highly doubt. I really don't know what to think of this, I guess we're just going to have to wait and see how it plays out...

As 360 fans never let anybody forget, North America is the largest, "most important" market in gaming. It'd be a very bad move for Sony to NOT bring such an initiative here.

That being said, there is every indication that it WILL be brought here, so there's no need to worry.
BrutallyBlunt  +   1143d ago
What does the 360 or their fans have to do with this article? Nothing. Another example of this feud you want to keep carrying on about your arch nemesis.

Isn't it time you simply grow-up? It also doesn't take a Xbox 360 fans perspective, as you put it, to know how vital the North America market is. An example would be to add up all this generations sales of consoles and compare that total to Europe and then to Japan and the rest of the world.

You really are an agitated fellow, so quick to be on the defensive about ANYTHING related to Sony. Can't you just make a simple comment like a normal person as to whether or not this initiative will make it to the U.S. That is why you are part of the problem, you make an issue out of everything. Why you can't take a backseat and ignore articles is odd. You're way too entrenched in all of this stuff and so quick to always want to respond.

Here, i'll show you how it's done. Yes Cross-Buy will be something Sony promotes in the U.S.A. Trouble is 3rd party publishers won't and they make up the bulk of the game library so it will be a limited venture.

am i the only one who doesnt seem to think that "cross-buy" will make the vita a must-have?

if youre buying the PS3 version, you want to play the PS3 version. being able to then play a watered down version of it on the vita, if you own one, wouldnt really be that big a deal to most people i wouldnt imagine.

not to mention the fact that this is only for sonys first party games, and only those which HAVE a vita version to begin with. dont expect to go and buy the latest Madden for PS3 and get the vita version for free.

cross-buy wont make a non vita owner buy a vita. whats the incentive? to play a worse version of a game you already own? no thanks, im not dropping $350 (thats the wifi starter pack price here in australia) on a vita to play a game i just bought on the PS3.

also, ive seen a few people saying that sony will lose a lot of money from this cross-buy thing - how so? digital copies cost sony NOTHING. giving away a digital copy of a game for free that they most likely would not have bought otherwise isnt "losing money".

on topic - of course itll come to the US (its already confirmed anyway). the USA is the biggest video game market in the world, theyd have to be idiots not to do it there. though having seen Sonys handling of the vita, im not ruling that out.

You are assuming with Crossbuy the Vita version would be "worse". I'm giving the benefit of the doubt and will assume it will be the same game but on a smaller screen with controls re-mapped.

There are games like Deus Ex, Uncharted 3, Dark Souls, Bioshock etc etc AAA titles where I would have love to be able to play them when I'm away from home.

I'm at school most of the day and I do have few 1-2 hours breaks during the day between classes. I would have LOVED to get a 1 hour session of gaming in there instead of just watching a movie I downloaded on my Samsung Note.

During car trips or waiting in lines at the airport or whatever, my Vita would always be handy and ready because its truly portable and provides the same AAA gameplay, sound, music, story experience only on a smaller screen but that screen is gorgeous.

So yeah to me crossplay and crossbuy is very important. I'd be willing to pay even $40 for the Vita titles if it were possible. To be able to play Dishonored, Xcom, Farcry, Assassins, Borderlands on my Vita...hell yeah to me its worth $40. But $40 for iOS/Android like games and Resistance by Nilishtic (whatever they're called)...ummmm no way.

lol, I was about to post that.
Seriously, can these "journalist" do some research before writing these blogs?
MasterCornholio  +   1143d ago
And even after that some people will still try and convince others that cross buy isn't coming to the US.

Amazing how some idiots can hate an electronic device.

DivineAssault  +   1143d ago
PS vita is region free so it doesnt matter
remanutd55  +   1143d ago
well Mr President has just twitted that cross buy is for Europe and NA as well, they are not sure about Japan yet.
DivineAssault  +   1143d ago
have a link?
poopsack  +   1143d ago
To not realize one of the most obvious details of this topic yet have enough time to write your own article about it is the biggest amount of Fail ive seen in a while. In other words: Yes, it is, and everyone who cares knows it, except this writer.
Raoh  +   1143d ago
Link no work..

Writer probably gets his game news from his son who is an xbox fan.
Soldierone  +   1143d ago
I constantly attack sites like Forbes all the time for their ignorant comments about how "video games are bad" and its not because they are stating this, its because they fail at finding actual facts to back up their view......this article PROVES it....

Can't even go to the official website to get your news? And yet this is a big time network of actual paid journalists....ugh, inspiring journalists like me work for free and can do a better job.
TronEOL  +   1143d ago
Well they sort of already did this with Sound Shapes. So I'd assume they'll be doing it with other games.
lodossrage  +   1143d ago
true, they've actually started doing this awhile ago

Motorstorm RC is another example.
DivineAssault  +   1143d ago
yup.. its US bound but unsure of Japan..
