OXCGN’s Sleeping Dogs Review

OXCGN:

"A drug deal goes sour. The police close in. After an action-packed pursuit along the waterfront, you’re cornered and taken in.

Sleeping Dogs, the new open world game from United Front Games and Square Enix, gets your attention from the beginning like a knee to the face.

Taking place in Hong Kong, the game revolves around Wei Shen, an undercover police officer tasked with infiltrating one of the city’s most feared triads, the Sun On Yee." (PC, PS3, Sleeping Dogs, Xbox 360) 7.5/10

Not sure about this one. It seems like a Spec Ops to me: everyone thinks it sucks, but then it turns out to be a sleeper hit.

I wasn't wowed by the combat when I got my hands on it, myself. Found things a bit too floaty, and it was too easy to grab enemies and drag them around into environmental hazards for my tastes.

...but that's just the combat. A fun story or interesting world'll more than make up for it.

I enjoyed it overall. The combination of the game's components made it work.

Plus the combat reminded of The Warriors a little released back on the Xbox and PS2.

I agree it has the potential to be a sleeper hit.

Can't say this one ever grabbed me. Should be a fun action game, but nothing really recommends it as more than that.

Is this anything like True Crime?
DeusExer  +   1047d ago
It was at one point True Crime: Hong Kong, until Activision cancelled it as they thought the game would bomb against GTA and Saint's Row.

Even though the developers stated it was playable from start to finish.

Then Square Enix picked it up, made the name change and a few gameplay tweaks, and this is what we have.

Has similarities to the first TC, don't know about TC: New York as I never played it.

Nice response. N4G isn't rotten through and through after all. Carry on.

Sleeping Dogs deserves at least an 8. It's the next best thing after GTA and Saint's Row.

Much better than saints row you mean...

Either way you look at it, I guess.

Not everyone has to love it, of course, but, if you like this type, it is a great game. A 9 in my book.
